Raise your wine glass and toast to the beautiful city of Bordeaux on the banks of the Garonne River. Having produced wine since the 8th century, it’s fair to say the second largest wine producer in the world is worth the trip for the vin alone. The city itself has spread outwards, rather than upwards, and the result is a very pretty town centre, filled with stone mansions and terraced housing comparable to Paris.
Cultured Bordeaux is filled with museums such as the Museum of Contemporary Art and Musee D'Aquitaine. The streets provide an equally interesting exhibition of fine architecture including the Victory Arch and the Aquitaine Bridge.
On the shores of the river lies the Les Chartrons district, which is a blend of ferry boat rides, picturesque views and buzzing nightlife while the pubs and cafes in the La Victoire district are frequented by students.
A tour of the famous vineyards is probably on the itinerary and this can be accomplished by visiting the wineries and châteaux privately or as part of a tour. You can also worship the wine gods at the Bordeaux Wine Festival held during the summer.
Visitors can easily make the short trip to the heart of Bordeaux from the Bordeaux-Mérignac Airport. With 70 hotels and bed & breakfasts available, Booking.com allows you to discover the vibrant and friendly heart of the vineyard region.
A great city for a holiday. Lots to see but all very accessible. Public transport is great and easy to use. A great selection of restaurants and cafes. Many beautiful and historic sites. Would have loved to stay longer.

Beautiful city, really easy to get around.
Beautiful city, really easy to get around. Walking is easy plus trams for longer distances. The residents are very helpful, no high rise buildings so the sky line is stunning. Lots of museums to visit, if you like steaks then head to Entrecote outside the Opera House, you can't book and queues are legendary but so are the steaks. Also pop in to the roof top bar on top of the Inter Continental opposite the Opera House, for drinks and snacks, it is great. Opens at 12 noon. And defo take the train, bus or a wine tour to St Emillion, it is half an hour away by train and it is so beautiful

Public transport is very easy and cost effective if you use the TBM (Transports Bordeaux Metropole). They have an app...
However, the city is VERY walkable.
Being a big city you can expect to pay more if you focus only on the tourist areas. Walk down the back streets and you will find other options!
Definitely go to the Bassins des Lumieres in Bacalan. This was hands down the highlight of the trip. Art installation in the former WWII submarine base. The building itself is jaw dropping and the show was amazing.
The Botanical gardens on the Bastide side are disappointing. Rather focus on the Public gardens (Jardin Public) near downtown.
The Sunday market at Quai de Chartons is well worth the visit. Do try the Oyster cafes and enjoy the wine, fresh seafood and bustle.
Cite du Vin is very touristy but the price includes a glass of wine on the top floor with spectacular view across Bordeaux.
Les Halles de Bacalan Food Market is pricey (for what you get). It is very lively and has lots of choice of foods though. Great for people watching. Closed on Monday.
Go to 7 Rue de la Vielle Tour and try Les Dunes Blanches - you won't be disappointed. Mini choux filled delights.
The Red Hop-On / Hop-Off bus is actually not as advertised - you stay seated on the bus - so we didn't bother. Unless you want to just drive around the city...

Easy train ride from Paris.
Easy train ride from Paris. Bordeaux town itself you can see in 1.5 day & its fine. Other must visits are: St Emilion or other wine region day trips, Cap ferret oyster villages and the Largest sand dune in EU. Bordeaux town itself also has alot of antique shops & flea markets that are nice. Seafood is fresh and delicious everywhere.

A fine area - can present a little intimidating to begin and you do cover a fair amount of the city using public transport. It is all very accessible with excellent transport links - use the Tourism office in the centre of Bordeaux to get a travel pass, tickets and consult the staff.
A really beautiful city full of medieval monuments, dedications to people who died in World War 2 for the Resistance, an amazing river, large buildings with ageing shutters, and really great wine readily available e

The appearance of Bordeaux is absolutely exhilarating with...
The appearance of Bordeaux is absolutely exhilarating with its miles of warm glowing limestone 18th century buildings. The number of trees and small gardens gives a great feeling, and the number of modern, quiet trams is truly impressive. Although visiting alone, I always felt safe and found locals helpful.
We adored our stay at LOLA Boutique hotel. The location was perfect- stunningly beautiful views of the cathedral, surrounded by cute cafes and restaurants, a short walk to the water and downtown and close to public transportation. The room itself was spacious and tastefully decorated, as was the rest of the hotel. The staff was so lovely and helpful and went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable. We had such a wonderful time, we almost extended our stay! If you are in Bordeaux, LOLA is the place to stay.
Very clean and quiet location. A little too far from the centre as there's no close transport so car needed.
Great staff at reception, very helpful and decent in the restaurant although that young team seems to sometimes think it's home and not work place.
Some prices are disrespectful for such location away from the city centre: Tiramisu: 10 euros..
The breakfast has limited quantities and on offer, always short of scrambled eggs. Lunch is quite good and good atmosphere as workers nearby go there.
We were here a year ago and they were modernizing. They have done so sympathetically, great elevator and rooms are excellent. They are old fashioned yes super clean and accessible I do not need modern decor. The staff is efficient and 24/8. The location is superb for tram from airport and to the train station. Easy access to center of the city. Great restaurants nearby and theater and wine center. I would rather be here than fancy new hotel it is why we are in France!!
This hotel was beyond our expectations! The decor is modern, tasteful and fun. Our room was spacious and had an amazing city view...but here's the best part..the food was 5 star! We ate dinner there 2 nights because it was so good! The morning buffet was so delicious...but wait...more..we had a 5:00 am taxi pick up time and they actually had breakfast bags waiting for us...filled with all kinds of goodies...how cool was that?? It was tough to leave...
The hotel is in the perfect location to explore Bordeaux. We had a room with a balcony overlooking the square and theatre, which was a great private space to relax. There was an excellent selection at breakfast each morning. The staff were all welcoming and helpful especially the concierge team. It was great to have a small swimming pool and sauna available in a city centre hotel.
Room was clean, the location is easy to get to by public transport from the airport and you can easily walk into the city centre. There is a bus stop right in front of the building and a supermarket a couple of minutes of walk away. Staff speaks English and was friendly at the check-in. The kitchenette was very sparsely equipped but was sufficient for a short-term stay.
Superb affordable accommodation conveniently near a tram line but with only 10 minute walk across the river into the city if preferred. Breakfast 6 euros has a good variety in a well-designed setting. Underground car parking. Staff helpful and attentive. The best boulangerie in France, Qu4tre Qu4rts, is just next door.
The rooms were a bit dated, but spacious enough for 2 people. There are lots of parking spaces available and the garage itself has the most convenient entrance I came across during my road-trip through France - something big car owners care about :) There’s also a great Italian restaurant in front of the hotel.
I stayed in Appart-Hôtel Mer & Golf City for night night with a friend. Good location to explore the area, tram stop to city center just 5 min away, friendly staff, comfy bed. i would definitely stay again if I ever go back to Bordeaux!
A beautiful boutique hotel in the center of Bordeaux. The staff were fantastic and very welcoming. We stayed for 3 days and the hotel is well positioned for the entire center. The faculties are very good and breakfast was exceptional.
The location is unbeatable if you want to stay in city centre. The rooms are very comfortable, with great detail and design. We had a superior double and the apartment. Staff is incredibly kind and helpful. We just loved it.
As many have said before, this hotel would be nothing without its incredible staff. I’ve yet to stay in a hotel in France with better staff. They are incredible. The music at night is superb. It’s funky with a great vibe.
The location was excellent with Tram stops to City Centre very close by. We did not use the Restaurant as we wanted to visit City and we found excellent choice of Restaurants available there.
rooms a little small, but excellent distance from the train station. Not in the best part of Bordeaux- not too much to do around the hotel.
But good price and good breakfast!
Very nice comfortable hotel in the ‘new’ heart of Bordeaux, just on the other side of the river from the city centre. A nice 10 min walk will get you in the heart of Bordeaux.
Very convenient hotel for our last night in France, closed to the train station, clean, and pet-friendly. The reception staff are all very nice, professional and welcoming.
The hotel is well located, on the opposite side of Garonne river than the city centre. The heart of Bordeaux is only 15 minutes walk. The room is ok and the price was fair.
The location was close to the train station which was convenient since we were traveling around France by train. However, the hotel it quite a ways away from center city.
