Wow, what a gem of a hotel. This is a truly spectacular property that exceeded even our high expectations. The staff and service were fantastic and the place gives you an immediate sense of calm. The surroundings are absolutely stunning. What we also appreciated was that the food, drinks and activities were not overpriced, so you left feeling like you were not taken advantage of, which can be the case for a lot of high end hotels. The food was delicious and in beautiful settings.

We loved staying here at Casa Pinto. It was such a treat to be in this amazing old village in such a beautiful room. The rooftop balcony was amazing!!! Breakfast was also great and we had lots of choices of what to eat.

The area is very quiet, the room was well equipped (fridge, kettle, heater) and the hosts - extremely nice. It's really close to the Mondaraz Castle (which you can see from the house). The breakfasts are varied and tasty.

Clean and newly furnished room and bathroom. Room had a small fridge that was handy. We had a great time around Monsaraz, there was a festival at the castle, and horse riding along and into the lake.
Situated within 300 metres of Monsaraz Castle and 47 km of Ducal Palace of Vila Viçosa, Casa D’ Santiago provides rooms with air conditioning and a private bathroom in Monsaraz.
Wonderful, fantastic. I loved the peace and harmony that one can breathe, Monsaraz at the top of the Monte, and the company of the chickens, ducks and turkeys. I wrote in peace, in the company of my friends and with the guidance of the stars of a fantastic sky, the likes of which I had never seen.

A day is all you need for the city of Monsaraz.
A day is all you need for the city of Monsaraz. If you want to explore Reguengos and it's vinyards then you may not need to stay in Monsaraz itself which is difficult with cars.
We visited the week leading into Easter Sunday and very few restaurants were open in the evening, in fact we only found one so be prepared to wait and have limited choices

Nice castle. Be sure you research your stay options.
Nice castle. Be sure you research your stay options. There are rooms at the castle itself as well as nearby houses. The hotel we stayed at was a bit overpriced and disappointing.
Views are incredible from the top. 2 hours is enough to have reserved lunch at the castle and then walk around the grounds for photos. Or 1 hour without lunch. Parking is tricky and we parked near the bottom and walked 10 minutes up the hill

Monsaraz, the graceful medieval village of Monsaraz,...
Monsaraz, the graceful medieval village of Monsaraz, maintains the magic from ancient times like few others in the world. Made of lime and schist, this place whispers us, between the echo of our footsteps in its streets. A lot of magnificent stories could be told about its courageous kings, Knights Templar, brave people and dames of simple beauty.
Now the night is covering you with its cozy blanket of stars. Sit down at one of the restaurants in Monsaraz. Taste the best traditional Alentejo food, like the crumbs or the lamb. As for Alentejo wine, savour a good Reserva Monsaraz with your meal. The view over Alqueva Lake completes the sensory nirvana. Don’t finish your night without admiring the show of constellations and planets, which shine more intensely on the sky.

Monsaraz is genuinely one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever visited. It felt like stepping back in time to a slower pace of life, a rustic, cobbled haven with the most fantastic 360 degree views of the lake, valley and the castle on top of the hill. It is well worth putting on your alarm to wake up for the sunrise when the village is still asleep and watching the place wake up including the animals on the distance. It was spectacular. The food was local and very rustic and delicious using produce from the Alentejo (we ate at Sabores de monsaraz and were hosted by Isabel, a local lady with a small but delicious local menu). The wine was also really good. It was incredibly hot (45 degrees) so would maybe be better to visit outside of the summer months. The vineyards surrounding monsaraz were beautiful we had a very special meal at Esporao, which is well worth the money having the 7 course tasting menu and accompanying wine flight, it felt like immense luxury whilst capturing the charm Portuguese food and produce. The village itself doesn’t have a shop for essentials so my advice would be to drive to reguengos de monsaraz prior to your stay to stock up on water and snacks so you can relax when you get there. It truly was a magical place to stay for a few nights.

A small walled village set atop a hill, with 360 degrees of absolutely stunning views. Not a huge amount to do in the village proper. The castle for sure. Also some excellent wine shops selling local wines (check out Ar d’Alentejo). Taverna os Templários is a must stop for lunch or dinner.
Cars can’t be parked in the village during the day, but there are several lots right outside the walls with easy access to the village.
We spent a day exploring nearby Neolithic dolmens and menhirs, lots to see within a half hour drive.

The property was so charming, and the rooms and other buildings were so nicely remodeled and decorated. The breakfast had the freshest food with homemade yogurt and granola, farm fresh eggs, delicious bread, and other items. It was better than the breakfast buffet we had in a 5 star hotel the night before. We loved the kitties wandering around the grounds and a friendly dog. So close to Monseraz, but enough away from the tourist crowds.
What a marvelous jewel amidst the wonderful willage of Monsaraz. We only had an overnight stay, but wished we could stay longer. The hosts are warm and engaging. The interior courtyard with lemon and orange trees is enchanting (where you can wind down and enjoy breakfast), the pool, albeit small, is refreshing and offers a spectacular sunset view and the rooftop patio is enchanting. Highly recommend, you won't be disappointed.
Small family run bed and breakfast with character and history. Simple, attractive room had beautiful views over the countryside. Breakfast was nice and in a lovely room with views. Friendly service. Overnight parking in small square a few steps away. Need to park elsewhere during the day (between 11am and 6pm). Monsaraz is a truly delightful town. Some good restaurants but not all are always open.
Having stayed in many different places, I can tell this hotel had one of the friendliest and more helpful staff I had the privilege to meet, always with a smile in their face and eager to make your stay as pleasant as possible. The location is great being less than a 5 minutes drive to the historic town of Monsaraz and very close to some fluvial beaches and other points of interest.
Beautiful guesthouse run by wonderful welcoming hosts who could not have done more for us.
Located a short walk from the gorgeous hilltop village of Monsaraz with stunning views from the pool
Lots of superb restaurants on the doorstep.
Scrumptious breakfast.
- Gorgeous location, you're in a quiet village, and if you're lucky you get a splendid view on the countryside.
- Great room, comfortable and well equiped
- Very kind staff
- Nice garden enjoyable also in winter
- Nice Portuguese tasca 50meters from the hotel
Friendly couple. Great farm stay. Good location to see monsaraz and wine lands.
Fernanda will help with plates and table with a view outside if you brought simple food and give tea coffee in the morning if you don't take their full breakfast option.
Great location with views up to the castle at Monsaraz. Lovely garden and pretty room.
The breakfast room was full of beautiful artwork and the breakfast was good.
Teresa was friendly and most helpful in arranging a taxi to take us into Monsaraz.
Well located in the village - easy to walk around and see everything Monsaraz has to offer! What a little gem of a town and this home makes it that much better! The host was wonderful, helpful and easy to communicate with!
Host very welcoming and works hard to make you feel at home, welcome and correct any issues or questions you may have. Would stay here again no question. Lovely private balcony to enjoy view of Monsaraz and countryside.
Great quiet location where you can really relax. The facility has two pools and a nice eating breakfast area. walking distance to three good restaurants and view to the Monsaraz castle
Very quiet, and beautiful, with authentic country charm! The grounds are lovely with orange trees, flower gardens, and all with a view of Monsaraz’s medieval walls!
