The room was very good, clean, and nice outlook over the garden. The offer of fresh milk left at your door early each morning was very impressive.

Although not a large town, there are a nice selection of shops along the Main Street, 5 museums catering for young and old, historical town walking trails and nature walks and a lovely Victorian park.
The selection of cafes, pubs and restaurants will satisfy any foodie lovers requirements, and on the Sunday that we visited, there was an Artisan street market and a car boot to wander around.
Parking is plentiful and cheap, and free 6pm-8am.

Dorchester has the feel of a small town with many delightful old buildings, cafes, pubs and restaurants, all seemingly selling good food. There are many museums in and around the town centre, often easy to get to on foot. There is Roman history here, medieval too, a long military heritage and of course the dinosaurs of the famous Jurassic coast. Too many things to do in just one weekend, and many more attractions only a short car-drive away. The shops? - Well we never had time to explore them!

The Dorchester Museum is excellent.
The Dorchester Museum is excellent. We called in just to find out about the Iron Age fort and ended up learning so much more. Everything is very clearly displayed and explained in enough detail, but not too much. There are some remarkable Roman mosaics, a good overview of a fascinating history of the area, and an interesting section about Thomas Hardy. We were there in cold, wet February weather, so outdoor activities didn’t suit the weather. At different times of the year the outdoor activities in the area have great promise.

We only went for my cousin wedding at the towns registry office, that was a very good experience. We had intended to look around the town on the following day but the weather was so foul we travelled back home.
The town for what we saw had some wonderful historical building, and we would have liked to explored more

Only visited for the afternoon and evening meal.
Only visited for the afternoon and evening meal. The Keep Museum is excellent with a great view from the top. Excellent Italian/Fish restaurant "Al Molo" (which was the main reason for visit). Would definitely visit again.
The property is situated in a quant setting by the riverbank surrounded by the beauty of nature. Yet,Dorchester and a vast choice of dining area are within just a few miles. The contrast of which offers both the still and peace of the property location and then those seeking a more lively visit, have the bustle of fine eateries within reaching distance.
Receptionist was kindness and polite. Room was tidy and clean, water supply in hot and cold water is so strong and good. The manger, Steve was so kind and nice and helpful. The location of the hotel is so convenience. Overall I feel comfort and leisure staying at Best Western Wessex Royale Hotel Dorchester and appreciate their service.
We had a great two night stay at Ashley House which is located in the beautiful Dorset countryside. Emma and Graeme were super hosts, very warm and welcoming. There is a wonderful pub a short drive away which serves great food and Dorchester is close by. It’s well located for trips to Weymouth and the beach. We’ll be back!
Very helpful and friendly staff. Beautiful decor and comfortable room in a handsome old building. Food and drinks were top notch. We were staying at the hotel with family and also had additional family meet us for dinner there one night. It was a wonderful experience all round - thank you! We’ll be back without a doubt!
The position was excellent in the centre of Dorchester. Although no parking at the hotel, only a few minutes walk away was top o Town car park easy to pay by "JustPark" and so good for getting about the county.
Breakfast was the best start to every day with lots of choice, quality ingredients and pleasant service.
The location is excellent in the centre of Dorchester and very easy to find. A lovely hotel, with lots of history and character. Excellent breakfast , lots of choices and presented well. The food in the evening was good but we did have a problem .
Best value in town. Lovely spacious sitting room and double four posted bedroom. Extra heaters in rooms was appreciated! A great breakfast supplied by the lovely and very chatty Debbie. We will definitely stay again when visiting Dorchester.
Dorchester is a pretty town, with a good selection of restaurants/shops and is very walkable. Being on the High Street, the Casterbridge was very convenient and Noorani was welcoming and super helpful with suggestions.
The Greyhound is in the gorgeous small Dorset village of Sydling St Nicholas (not in the town of Dorchester!). We were there to walk a section of the Wessex Ridgeway so the location was perfect for us!
Our room was clean and comfortable and the breakfast was sufficient to set us up for the day. The Inn is in a quiet hamlet outside Dorchester and as such is centrally situated for touring Dorset.
The staff were excellent and very welcoming. Hotel is clean and bed was very comfortable. Drinking and dining areas were lively and spacious and the food was very good. Easy parking.
