Everything. But would like to know why 2 windows in Kingfisher suite ( where we stayed) were blocked out. This is not a criticism but idle curiosity.

Fantastic food, comfort and location. The fact Micheal goes out of his was to strike up a conversation with his guests just adds to a memorable experience. Expensive but all the best things in life are.

I found the breakfasts to be very ordinary in the terms of quality unlike the evening meals which were all using locally sourced ingredients which were a stand out. For instance nothing on the full english breakfast plate was memorable or felt farm sourced. It would be nice if they added spa offering such as massage etc.

The evening food was spectacular, the rooms were lovely and the local art and sculptures scattered around the grounds and in the house was a nice touch.

Lovely hotel grounds & location. Staff was extremely friendly & attentative. Food was superb & the tasting menu a fantastic experience.Rooms however badly designed - too dark, no ventilation, noisy & in partial need of of refurb. Although it was a nice experience the rooms are overpriced compared to similar hotels.

Coffee is terrible, it's all this pod rubbish, breakfast disappointing, (I expected better).

Fab views of the estuary from our room, wine from the hotel vineyard fab, food good,(as you would expect).

The administration appears to need some attention because about 10 minutes after I had checked out and settled my bill in full for extras (food and wine) the hotel attempted to take payment for my stay again!! I had of course already paid in full for the accommodation in advance via Booking.com. Luckily the transaction was declined by my Bank. Never the less I emailed the hotel to bring this to their attention. They said 'It was caused by an unusual system error. We have investigated it and hope that it will not reoccur. I apologies for the inconvenience this has caused. I can reassure you that it was not an intentional attempt to deduct additional funds from your card.'

The room was very good and comfortable. The food was exceptional. Breakfast was good too.

I was surprised that having spent the best part of £1,400 for an overnight stay and dinner to be asked to pay for £8 coffee on the morning after checking out … I had checked out in the morning, gone for a walk in the grounds and then come back and asked if there was any chance of a quick coffee for two … it’s the sort of thing in a london hotel would have been given as the “don’t worry about that” and would have left a much better feeling … sadly, unlikely to return because of that …

the room was poorly designed. The lighting was very poor and the switches were very tricky to understand. The shower and bath were excellent but the vanity unit housing the basins is not user friendly with the basins situated too far back.

Our suite , dark and dingy and so uncomfortable. One little sofa , lighting that drove us mad and couldn’t be read by . The open plan bathroom is not to our taste we would not have booked if we had known it was like that. The room was not where you want to spend time, very disappointed, it is disfunctional and depressing.

It was good but the alcove sheeting is not easy to get in and out of.

No airconditioning, all food and drink very expensive, refillable toiletries which weren’t refilled, lack of attention to detail.

Great location overlooking the River Exe between Exeter and Exmouth. Looks 5 star and great food

The toiletries which are provided are not the best (hotel's own brand) and I would have preferred something such as L'Occitaine or similar. However, this is probably a matter of preference. The one area which really needs improvement is the speed of service at breakfast. There is table service at the moment (presumably because of Covid) and we regularly had to wait 20 minutes for coffee or a hot dish to arrive. On one occasion, I ordered granola which never arrived (in spite of numerous enquiries as to its whereabouts). I would hope that this situation will improve once Covid restrictions are lifted; it must be said that, although the slow service was an irritation, it did not significantly affect my view of my stay in a negative way.

The rooms (although some of them are a bit on the small side) are very comfortable and the cleanliness was excellent. I would rate it 10/10 on this score. The staff are largely very polite, attentive, and helpful and there are many nice touches (e.g. fresh fruit daily in your room, and complementary bottled water and G&Ts, both of which are also replenished daily). The hotel is beautifully situated and it was a daily pleasure to sit out on the lawn after breakfast and take in the view over the River Exe.

Service standards and price.

The Service was disappointing waited for ages on several occasions and then the order would then be wrong. Dinner was nice but nothing special and over priced.
