Kusatsu onsen Futabaya, hotel in Kusatsu

Kusatsu onsen Futabaya offers accommodation in Kusatsu. Free private parking is available on site.

Excellent location. Very short walk from the bus interchange and Yubatake. The boss and staff are very helpful in assisting us with the luggage forwarding service by TA Q Bin. Greatly appreciate their help on this! Staff have been attentive and helpful. The staff speak English, hence it also made communication easier for us. There is washing machine and heater available which we are able to wash our clothing. We originally thought we have to bring the clothing to a laundry shop. 2 onsen baths are available for private use within the hotel.

Of the three most popular onsen towns in Gunma, Kusatsu is definitely the most accessible and easiest to wander through. It has an almost amusement park-like quality and is very convenient. There are not many dining options so make sure to book a hotel with breakfast and dinner.

I love this town for its distinctly authentic Japanese feel.

I love this town for its distinctly authentic Japanese feel. It is nestled in the mountains, a gorgeous drive from Tokyo (If you have the time, drive!) Many places to drop in for a foot soak, lots of little shops and restaurants. Prepare to wait in the busy season (which I believe is the fall and winter). This time we stayed in a traditional Japanese hotel with tatami and only futons for sleeping- being from the US, this made the trip especially fun but make sure you are ok with getting up and down from the floor. There are less people who speak English than in the major cities. But if you are comfortable pointing and smiling and trying google translate, it is a beautiful place to visit. Note that people with limited mobility may find the town difficult to navigate (steps and steep hills). Better for adults, but there is a little tropical zoo nearby and the onsen demonstration is fun.

Lovely Onsen town. Simply magical during winter.

Lovely Onsen town. Simply magical during winter. We went in February and it was snowing. Family love it so much that we’re planning to visit for next winter. A lot of private hot spring and delicious food. We had kaiseki for breakfast and dinner at our ryokan. Definitely worth the trip and ain’t too far from Tokyo. Stay a night if possible.

If you want to experience the quintessential Japanese, hot-spring town in the mountains then, Kusatsu is the place for you. It takes a while to get there with the train and bus but if you have the time then I would recommend it. The culture surrounding hot-springs is unique to the Japanese and there is no better place to experience it. Get early there for a day trip because most buses coming down to the train station stop running around 7 PM.

Kusatsu is a great place for natural hotsprings.

Kusatsu is a great place for natural hotsprings. Great Onsen. Its best to go for relaxation purpose and take a dip in the hotsprings. The places to look out for are 1) Yubatake (center of the town) - Please do visit in the evenings as well when the lights turn ON and make it a beautiful view. 2) Sainokawara Park and Open air Onsen. This is a must visit place to spend good walk in the park and then visit Open air Onsen JR Bus station is very close to center - Yubatake. So it's just a 5mins walk and also there are round trip bus by JR to all sightseeing spots. Most of the resorts offer shuttle bus service also; so I recommend to check with your resort before booking. This really helped us. The food is next best thing in Kusatsu. However if you are Vegetarian like us you might find difficulty to find good restaurants. However, there are a couple of Italian restaurants that offer good pasta and pizza which is loaded with vegetables. One major thing to note is the Bus service from Kusatsu Bus station to Nagonahara Kusatsuguchi. The bus service is not regular; so please check it and plan your outbound trip.

The Yubatake area is picturesque and has many nearby shops with Japanese treats you can take out and eat/drink while sitting and enjoying the ambiance of Yubatake. Lots of traditional Japanese buildings, walkable streets with shops selling souvenirs and Japanese treats. Be sure to take the 10min walk from Yubatake thru Sainokawahara Koen (Park) to the large outdoor hot spring bath Sainokawhara Rotenburo.

Great place to stay and enjoy an evening after having explored the town of a day at the local ski resort. The rooms are large and comfortable. We had plenty to do at the leisure area in the hotel lobby. There were even a gaming consoles to keep you busy throughout the night in hotel rooms. The owner runs a great coffee shop just down the road which hosts a very skilled barista who makes fantastic coffee just like what you would find in Australia. The hotel has three different onsens to choose from and all the necessary amenities.

Everything was good. The Staff, Location, the room, the onsen, breakfast...all are wonderful. I have problem with my heavy luggage but the nice young female staff helped me. The hotel is right across Kusatsu bus terminal (less then 1 minute walk), and there is a 2-minutes-walk shortcut to Yubatake. There is a convenience store right in front and a restaurant next door. There is no shower or bathtub in the toilet in guest-room. But who needs those when you have an onsen with showering area.

Amazing ryokan/hotel in Kusatsu. Staff were friendly and helpful. There was an initial mix-up with the room reservation, but the staff made sure to take care of it right away. The facilities were great and the room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was hearty and delicious, and again, the staff made us feel very comfortable. And on check-out, they gave us a free coffee coupon to their sister coffeeshop, which was an incredibly nice gesture.

Great location-close to yubatake and Kusatsu bus terminal. The rooms were spacious and very clean with 2 full size beds that were very comfortable and warm. The Staff was so friendly and helpful. They let us store our luggage so we could explore the area after checking out. The manager even offered to transport our luggage to the next hotel. This is one of the more affordable places to stay in Kusatsu and we will definitely stay here again!

The hotel design is very appealing, it has only been open a year, so convenient to Yubatake, bus terminal, onsens, etc. The check in was smooth, efficient & personal. We had a young lady from Nepal who spoke good english. Very spacious & comfortable rooms, lovely onsen on 1F, the breakfast & dinner was impressive & delicious. Free tea/coffee till 5:30pm. We certainly would recommend others to stay here and we would love to return.

It was very comfortable, beds 10/10, they were very cosy and kept us warm and also include an electric blanket. Two of the 3 of us were from hot and sunny Qld Australia and our son brought us to Kusatsu Onsen at a time when it was very cold and snowing. It was exceptionally wonderful time to visit when it snowed. The onsens in the hotel were great as well as the ones in the park and town.

very Zen Style Hotel. Beds are comfortable. 2 Onsen (1 men, 1 women). The one for men is a bit dark. The host speaks excellent English. Dinner and breakfast are a real highlight! The Kaiseki- Dinner was just amazing. Overall price for the hotel was quite high, but most of the hotels in Kusatsu are expensive. Would love to come again!

The free shuttle service (to and from bus station and to and from ski resort) was pretty convenient. It's far enough from the center so that you can experience peace and quiet but not too far that the walk becomes a hassle. The breakfast was pretty abundant. and the on site onsen was great!!
