Beautiful island! Would recommend 3 full days here. We had one day renting a scooter and going to the national park (1h30 hike) and 2 caves near the National Park. Then we went on the night boat trip with kayaking & swimming to see the bioluminescence plankton. Then the next day we went on the Lan Ha Bay & Halong Bay boat trip with kayaking. Both trips were booked with Cat Ba Local who we'd highly recommend! Then the third day we walked around town to see the markets and went to the 3 beaches. Then hired a tandem bike in town in the evening! Lovely island so allow time to relax and enjoy it. It is convenient to travel to Cat Ba from Hanoi city, only 3 hours travelling. You can enjoy both sea and forest at the same trip in Cat Ba island. Food is the most I like in Cat Ba, especially sea food and ice cream.AAnonymous - 6.0Scored 6.0

There is no beach in the bay. You have to travel further afield. It would be good to know when your chosen hotel/accommodation is on a steep hill. Cat Ba has a great little market, a few good restaurants, good foot massage and friendly folks

Cat Ba is a nice spot to just chill.
Cat Ba is a nice spot to just chill. There is good accommodation around and lots of eating place to choose from. You can also spend 8 hours cruising on the bay if you wish with lunch included. The cruise was very enjoyable. Oasis restaurant on the main street is a great place to eat, drink or have a cup of coffee. The food is great there. They have a pool table there and it's free to play. If you want to go to the beach, it's near the Flamingo Resort which is a 20 minutes walk to the left of the main road if you're facing the bay.

The room was super clean, no bugs or mosquitoes were noticed, and it was quiet too! The location is quite central, about two minutes to the Main Street, but at the same time it’s not crowded. On the second night we went to their hostel on the island and had a few drinks and some food, and everyone there was just as friendly. Really, anything you need and they're so happy to help. Our room was beautiful and clean with a amazing view of the sea! For the price this hotel is a no brainier as the service you receive is above and beyond. We would particularly like to thank Teddy who looked after us during our 3 night stay. When we return to Cat Ba in the future we will definitely be staying here!

In the short stay of ours, we did manage to get a couple of cocktails up there. The place was ideal. There seemed to be a really handy tourist info place a couple of doors down from the hotel. They organized the transfer of ours to the port to capture the cruise as well as rented us a motor scooter so we might fly all over the island for the morning. To get to the center of Cat Ba Town it takes a 10 to 15 minutes walk. Everything was clean and there is enough space for all tourists. We easily rented 2 scooter at the hotel and explored the island by ourselves. We can definietly recommend this place, if you are looking for a comfortable stay not directly in the center.
