Colourful and historic, modern and colonial, local and touristic, Cartagena de Indias represents one of the liveliest Colombian beach resorts. Its character mixes cultures and peoples, including natives, Spanish, African and Arab. Its rich legacy granted its Old Town the recognition as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
When the Spanish founded the city in 1533, the region had already been inhabited for thousands of years. It became an important port for the Spanish gold and a significant political centre. Echoes of those times can be seen throughout the historic centre, in the city walls, the San Felipe de Barajas Castle, and the colourful streets and colonial squares. Nice vacation, a lot to see, city is really nice, especially in the evening with animations. But very hot and beaches are not clean, you need to go to beaches far away (by boat). I liked to see free animals (monkeys,...) in the city park Centenario.

Cartegena has so much culture and history.
Cartegena has so much culture and history. The food was fantastic! There is live music in every restaurant and bar. Traditional dancing can be found in the squares and you just need to tip. Just be aware of all the street hustlers, especially the rappers who will follow you. The old town comes alive after 8pm. Be prepared for the 90-100% humidity during the mid-day. It is best to site see early in the morning or evening and siesta or pool lounge during the mid day.

The beaches are good, and provide a diversion (or a primary reason to go, if you are young) and a completely different atmosphere.

Lots to do if you work with local tourist agents.
Lots to do if you work with local tourist agents. Leave the area and go to Baru for glowing plankton or boats to Rosario archipelago. Old town. Watch out for street vendors selling trinkets and being too pushy.

Lovely stay in this boutique hotel. Perfect location. Right in the center of the walled city, next to a beautiful plazza with a small park but just a few blocks away from the main noisy sites. Breakfast was really good and staff was extremely helpful and accommodating. They stored our bags before and after check in and arranged laundry for us. We forgot a small bag in our room when we left and they are trying to get it back to us in Canada. One of the best hotel we stayed in during our Colombia trip! Highly recommend it.
The place is situated really near the plaza of Getsemani where it's close to everything. There's a kitchen that u can use and the place is spotless clean, Maria is such a very wonderful host and Elly ( the one who makes the breakfast, not sure if that's her name) is so wonderful. They are so friendly and they make the breakfast more lively. they change the breakfast daily and we enjoyed the traditional colombian breakfast. Rooms are really well decorated and the place is cozy and homey.
We loved Casa Pizarro! The staff was so helpful, breakfasts were fantastic, the room was comfortable and quiet, and the pool was great for the Cartagena heat. This is a great location in the heart of Getsemani but far enough from the real center of things that you can get a good, undisturbed night's sleep. It's a quick walk into the old city as well. Wifi was strong enough for my husband to work remotely for a few of the days we were there.
The Staff at this hotel are exceptional greeting us at every occasion with a smile and tending to all our needs. Good wifi all over the hotel. Great rooftop top pool and bar that look out onto the bay, the breakfast was always delicious with plenty of variety. The hotel is clean, the location is in the Getsemani district and a 5 minute walk from the old city wall. Spa services on site with massage and facials available.
This is a very high-end luxury hotel with top-notch customer service. The hotel itself is absolutely beautiful. Modern, well-thought, and stunning architecture. The staff is extremely attentive and really goes out of their way to make sure you're comfortable and happy. My 2 night stay was the perfect relaxing break from the chaos of downtown Cartagena. If you're looking for a luxurious beach paradise, stay here!
We really enjoyed our stay at Casa Jaguar. It is a charming little boutique hotel in the middle of Getsemani, very close to attractions and restaurants. The breakfast we had in the attached cafe was made to order, fresh and delicious. We even met a group of tourists who came daily from Bocagrande just to breakfast at Cafe Antonio. The staff are so friendly and helpful. I'd stay here again in a heart beat.
Hotel Casa San Agustín was really an extraordinary and magical place. They have taken care of every detail in the architecture of the place and the staff was so worry about everything you need. In addition, the food in Alma Restaurant was delicious. The place was magical, literally a diamond in the middle of old Cartagena de Indias. My trip would not have been the same if I had not stay here.
The location was perfect. Getsemani is a stunning neighborhood to stay in and so close to the old city. The staff at Arsenal was always helpful and kind. It was my birthday and they surprised me during breakfast with a happy birthday song and pastry. The hotel itself is worth it. It’s super clean, the rooms were really nice and spacious. Honestly, it exceeded my expectations.
Staff was really great (and all called "Rosa", notably Rosa Roja, Rosa Azul, Rosa Negra). The hotel also helped us out with coordinating the Covid-tests we required for our return trip home. The hotel is located in one of the cutest streets of the old city, and everything was at walking distance from the hotel. Great place to stay when visiting Cartagena!
My first time staying in the Getsemani neighbourhood. An up and coming area with now many boutique hotels, bars and restaurants. An alternative to the traditional old city, which was refreshing. The hotel has very nice decorations, and the service was second to none. Breakfast is a la carte but diverse and very Colombian,
Excellent customer service from day 1 to day 7. The rooms are excellent and the front desk was very attentive of our requests throughout the stay. Greta breakfast and the hotel is one block from the beautiful beach of Cartagena. Price was really good for the location and amenities of this hotel. Lo recomiendo.
The hotel is charming, with old colonial architecture and updated modern finishes. The rooms are very spacious and the A/C worked really well (very important, considering Cartagena was so hot and humid during our stay). Many shops, restaurants and plazas are just a short walk away.
Moises always had a smile; he was incredibly friendly and helpful throughout our stay! He made our stay in Cartagena that much more memorable. The hotel was in a great location, easy to walk everywhere in the center. Roof terrace was really nice in the evenings!
Beautiful boutique hotel, with excellent breakfast and comfortable rooms, very close to Plaza de la Trinidad; small rooftop pool and jacuzzi. Stored our luggage for a number of days in the hotel when we went hiking in Tayrona National Park.
This hotel is located right next to Plaza Fernandez de Madrid which is buzzing with energy any time of the day. The staff were super friendly and my room was nice and spacious. The lady who served breakfast was very sweet!
My stay at Cartagena de Indias Hotel y Centro de Convenciones was stellar. The staff, the room, the vast breakfast offerings, and the general ambience were exceptional. From this point, no other hotel can compare.
An amazingly luxurious experience in a beautiful hotel. Staff were exceptional, particularly Felix and his team on the rooftop. Room was super comfortable. Excellent location right in the middle of the old city.
The location, within Getsemani, is excellent - close to the activity fo Getsemani and a pleasant walk to the old city and the waterside activities. The hotel has an old world charm and pleasant reception staff.
very nice location in the middle of getsemani. you can reach the old city, a lot of restaurants and bars, the haven and other common places by walking very easily. Also the staff of the hotel was very nice.
After seeing hotels all around the world and in Colombia this hotel just gets it. They understand what is important to their guests. Great value to money. If I ever come Cartagena again I would stay here.
