Karuizawa offers an amazing small town charm with excellent food, friendly people, and accessible nature. Definitely check out the Japanese Giant Flying Squirrel tour to view Musasabi! The only downside to this beautiful town is that it's a bit more pricey than the rest of Japan.

We would definitely go back.
We would definitely go back. Just around an hour by Shinkansen from Tokyo, Karuizawa is the perfect place if you want the laid-back, nature-embraced, old-town feel. Just strolling around town is cool enough but they have a lot of museums and galleries too, that the whole family enjoyed! Also got to try skiing for the first time. Overall, this is one place that we will always be included if we go in the Tokyo area again in the future.

A wonderful destination if you like fresh mountain air, lovely tree-lined roads, cycling, etc. Many useful bus routes and also Shinano Railway next to the Shinkansen that goes to Naka-Karuizawa and way beyond. Note that many restaurants close early, especially out of season. Many well-known restaurants need a booking.

Should spend more days in Karuizawa town.
Should spend more days in Karuizawa town. There is a Skiing sport just beside the Prince town outlets and worth for beginner to try and have fun. Walking distance to the old town bring different experiences and its very nice to try walk around and try the foods there. Its worth to go for a relax place. If more days , can travel down to the other town in Karuizawa for skiing and sight seeing. Awesome place to explore.

A European town in a forested mountainous region not far from Kusatsu, Shima onsen, or Tokyo.
The hot springs aren’t anything special but the mountainous scenery and delicious French/Italian food can be a nice change from the usual Tokyo bustle.
Autumn colours are nice, especially just north towards mount Asama.

Nice “garden” style hotel. Old but has been refreshed.
Nice “garden” style hotel. Old but has been refreshed. Like the “Club” room with free drinks (not beer) and games. Large rooms. Breakfast not buffet but “set,” and good enough. Not easy to spot entrance off the main road.
Hotel sits on the central road of Karuizawa town, and it is a 10 min walk from Karuizawa Station (even in snow). It is a nice and cozy place to rest and hang-out with friends and families. Rooms are decorated with simplicity theme. Bathtub is available in the room to enjoy a nice bath after the trip. TV can link to Youtube and play videos of your choice.
Breakfast is ordered through menu and drinks are free flowing. There is a happy hour for alcoholic drinks at 9:15pm. Tea and coffee services almost throughout the day.
The service were so great and the receptionist was super helpful! We really enjoyed our stay here. We dropped our luggage early and they provided the luggage storage. When we checked in, the luggage was already in the room which we super grateful (given that our luggage were quite heavy). The location was about 10mins away walking from Karuizawa station which make this hotel very convenient to get to the Shinkansen station. There is also public bath, laundry available at the hotel.
Had a warm welcome at the check-in desk and the staff was very friendly and attended to all my queries. The West Wing is located very close to the hot spring and the outdoor hot spring is just excellent. The entire hotel is massive and has everything we need and the facilities are just perfect for families with kids too. The shopping plaza is only a few minutes walk away and it's just amazing! Will definitely visit again!
This is a wonderful hotel: warm, comfortable and spacious. With a car, it is the perfect base for trips to Usui Lake, Onioshidashi Volcano Park and Karuizawa Bird Sanctuary, along with Karuizawa Old Ginza Street and the factory outlets.
The room is much more than a hotel room - there is a lounge area, a galley kitchen, and good-sized bedroom and bathroom.
A quick jaunt from the train station, this hotel is within easy walking distance to the old machi town. The hotel provides a free shuttle service from the station, which was helpful as we had quite a bit of luggage. We arrived early and our luggage was portered to our room. Post checkout, the hotel stored our luggage until we were ready to leave Karuizawa.
We really enjoyed staying at Hotel Wellies. Chris, the owner of the hotel and his team were very helpful, especially Chris who picked us up from and drove us to JR station. Also, he gave us a ride to the tourist spots at Karuizawa. We were very impressed with the breakfast and tasted pure British breakfast in Japan
Reasonable business hotel!
The rooms are clean and bathroom is big enough. I needed a cheap accomodation for one night in Karuizawa, and it was very good. Breakfast is ok too. Staff was very kind and welcoming. Check-in was fast and efficient!
I walked from Karuizawa station, 20-25min depending on your walking pace.
It was a great stay. The hotel is located in mountain areas with great view, but very convenient as it provides free shuttle bus rides to the Karuizawa station - almost one ride every hour. The food is also wonderful. Above all, the service is amazing, the best of the best in worldwide I can say.
My second visit to this hotel - wonderful design and a short walk from Karuizawa station. The nearby bus stop is also convenient for exploring the area, nearby waterfalls and Kusatsu onsen. A highlight is definitely the restaurant for course dinner and delicious breakfast options.
Hotel Rosso gave us the best value for money during our stay in Karuizawa. The hotel had a very cozy ambiance and we had a comfortable stay. The room was big and the beds were comfortable. A simple breakfast was included in the accommodation. There were plenty of parking spaces.
The hotel is in close proximity to the Karuizawa Prince Shopping Centre and the JR Karuizawa Station so getting around was a breeze, especially with the free shuttle service. The room is spacious and the bathroom is very well equipped with all necessary toiletries.
the location is great close to Karuizawa train station and bus station. few minute walk from/to outlet shopping mall and convenient stores are nearby. vintage decoration, comfortable and quiet area to stay.
Perfect location for walking to Old Karuizawa and the shopping mall. Nice communal bath and shower. Comfortable tatami room. Quiet. Clothes washer and dryer available.
The bfast was great although there were limited options, just two. Either Japanese or Western. Western was buffet only. Continental would have been great.
