There is no reason to go to Liberia.
There is no reason to go to Liberia. It’s a transit point: to lovely beaches to the west; mountains and jungle to the east; and the Nica border to the north. That being said, the Chinese restaurant & the Indian restaurant (Masala) in the center of town were both very tasty! The streets are not marked so you can have a hell of a time finding your hotel if it is relatively small or unknown. It is close to a market where you can have breakfast. it is convenient to the airport.

We had to go all the way downtown for a bank machine. Information, such as bus scheduling was non existant at the station. You had to find someone who was familiar with the buses. There's not a lot of reason to stay in Liberia. It's more of a "stop off" due to the airport. Most eating places are downtown. There's not a great selection outside the core. Liberia is a good place to start traveling around Guanacaste and the Pacific northwest of Costa Rica..A good place to arrive as the airport is not as busy as San Jose. Liberia isn't a tourist town.
Liberia isn't a tourist town. It does allow you to see real Costa Rican life - which is the best part of travel. We walked all over town and always felt safe. I really enjoy Liberia.
I really enjoy Liberia. The downtown area by the park has lots of shopping. I went into a pharmacy and they had a free dr. who quickly diagnosed my problem and prescribed a medication that worked very well. There is a family run laundry with a half day turnaround. I really enjoyed a restaurant where the ceasar salad was made in front of you. It is two blocks from the main intersection on the right hand side of the road. What would be very useful is a map of the city. We asked locals for directions and they were very helpful in directing us to what we needed.
