Hamburg is spread out and finding the right hotel is a bit of a challenge. We wanted to be close enough to the action to enjoy where we were staying, but not so close that the noise and crowds became a problem. The ACOTEL Onyx was spot on. Positioned on the Reeperbahn right next to a railway station, but few blocks walk to the real hullabaloo of St Pauli. The position also means it’s close to the Langdungsbrucken wharves for boat tours etc. Add to that the comfortable, well presented rooms and you are on a winner here.
Lovely hotel, friendly helpful staff. Location was great, highly recommend a trip to the harbour. Especially the Elbphilharmonie observation deck. Fantastic views. A boat cruise is also worth doing. The U-boat is interesting & worth a visit. We were so lucky with the weather & also there was a cruise ship festival going on which was great to see the ships.
Kitchen/breakfast view over harbor, city etc. Hotel staff is exceptionally great and helpful, for example hostess for the breakfast area was extremely welcoming and helpful. Location is great right next to fish mark, boat, bus etc transport. Small fridge in the room. Room and hotel looks very modern and nice.
The owners where welcoming and friendly. A little chat about the boat included. The breakfast was super. Exceptional.
The location and it was fun experience to stay in a boat hotel. I liked the breakfast (juice, coffee, boiled egg, some fruits, cheese and bread).
I really, really liked this hotel. The wonderful receptionist let me check in in the morning, no stress, they loaned me a phone charger, the location was truly brilliant. In one direction a small waterside walk to lovely fish restaurants, boat trips, museums, and the city centre. A walk in the other direction - the cool and gritty famous Reeperbahn area. The shower was powerful. The breakfast was really, really good. so many continental choices, great coffee, and they’ll make you a hot breakfast too. Highly recommend and hope I’ll come again!
The only thing that I like the most is the hotel location which is 1000's steps below the famous Hamburg Landungsbrücken. (Ferryboat pier for sightseeing), pier with lots of souvenir shops and small restaurants, cafes, and small food, and beverages stores.
Overall a pretty good experience. Hotel room had a comfortable size, good beds and very clean! Very quiet during night time, we could sleep with open windows without problems. Although U- and S-Bahn are a bit far off, there is a bus stop 2 minutes from the hotel with buses running to Hauptbahnhof every few minutes. So easy to get around, and nice to be close to both Alster (boat trips etc) and Lange Reihe with loads of shops and restaurants.
Great base to see Hamburg from. Very friendly and helpful staff. Convenient safe parking albeit in a public car park. Practical apartment with useful appliances. I recommend an evening boat tour of the port if spectacular industry interests you. I would highly recommend Pastalozzi for an excellent and good value meal.
