Picture-postcard Heidelberg is guarded by its famous castle halfway up a hill. If you don’t fancy walking, a funicular railway goes there and continues to Königstuhl Mountain whose views are fit for the king it is named after. Dating to the 13th century, the ruined castle has peaceful gardens to wander, and the Heidelberg Tun, the world’s biggest wine barrel. And big it is!
At the foot of the hill is cobbled Hauptstrasse, supposedly Germany’s longest pedestrian shopping street selling traditional German beer mugs amongst other things. Also here are pavement cafes, the odd bierkeller and several Heidelberg hotels.
A short walk west is the Heiliggeistkirche (Church of the Holy Spirit), towering above the Baroque old town. Its square is the site of the Heidelberg Christmas markets, while to the north the beautiful Old Bridge crosses the Neckar River and ends at a twin-towered city gate.
Further west is Heidelberg University, the oldest in Germany and with a national reputation to rival Cambridge, its twin city. Over the river, Neckarwiese is a riverside park popular with students for a barbecue and beer, while by night the city’s many bars stay open until the early hours (and beyond!).
The nearest airports – Frankfurt and Stuttgart – both offer quick access by train to the Heidelberg accommodation on Booking.com

We just stopped for one night, between trains so just had a few hours and the evening. The Altstadt was very nice to wander round, and for a beer and dinner. I would like to go back and visit the castle, and see more of the town and area.

Heidelberg is a beautiful City.
Heidelberg is a beautiful City. You can't visit and have a bad time if you enjoy culture and exploration!
Choosing the right accommodation for you always helps of course but the City itself is enough to lift anyone's spirits.
Of course the castle on the hill was beautiful as you would expect. I knew it would look amazing up there before we went, and still wasn't prepared for how magnificent it was. The views from the castle were so scenic, I facetimed home to show them, which you were able to do up a mountain because there was 5G connection everywhere.
It is one of those places where if you do it right, you get to know the culture and understand it very quickly and immerse yourself in it.
Would highly recommend visiting at Christmas time.

A visit to Heidelberg castle is a must.
A visit to Heidelberg castle is a must. You can walk up a rather steep cobbled road, or get the funicular railway. Pay into the castle, or walk the grounds for free. The castle is derelict and uninhabited but the majority of the structure still stands. The view from the garden terrace in the grounds looking down the Rhine and over the old town is fabulous. There are plenty of opportunities to walk alongside the river either side of the old bridge. Lots of places to eat from snack bars and bakeries to restaurants and bars. A 2 day visit was ample for us
Super clean, feel-like-home apartment with very well equipped rooms and kitchen, and beautiful garden,as well as an access to a small mountain with magnificent view on top.
Mrs. Ludmila, the nice host was so kind to us and made efforts for helping us for our laundry that we do not need to come back for moving washed clothes to dryer, all clothes were nicely folded after we get back from whole day trip, these are extremely helpful values added services provided to us.
We strongly recommend the hotel to everyone will stay in Heidelberg.
This hotel is absolutely lovely - the reception area is pristine and modern. Although our room wasn't quite ready on check in because the hotel was sold out, we were able to leave our luggage here and begin our visit to Heidelberg. We dealt with 2 girls at reception, both incredibly busy but incredibly helpful. I couldn't praise them enough. The breakfast was absolutely gorgeous too, with so much to choose from. The rooms were spotless and clearly newly decorated. Everything was to notch - I couldn't fault it.
The hotel is fairly new. It is clean and well maintained.
The halls are quiet, and you do not hear your neighbors.
There is a communal kitchen that is well stocked with pots and pans and dishes, etc.
The concept is unique, but we always found it to be very clean and tidy.
The clientele of the guests is varied, from packpackers to business people to families and groups in every age category.
The hotel is a 10 minute walk to th main transit station of Heidelberg.
Very friendly and easy check in. The hotel is an older building and feels like it even with renovations. However, the room was spacious and clean, and the mattress was very soft and comfy. There is free street parking available, but we did have to park down a couple streets to find a spot available. Walkable distance to the Heidelberg Castle, which was nice so we kept our parking spot on the street. It's a good hotel to stay at for the price.
The hotel's location is very central in a courtyard off a small street which is right in the heart of the historic old town district. Everywhere in the Altstadt is with 10 minutes walk. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Room was spotlessly clean, was comfortable and well located. Daily breakfast was offered from 7am to 11am and provided an excellent selection of food and drink including cooked items to order.
This is a nice traditional hotel that is surprisingly pet friendly in a quiet neighborhood in the outskirts of Heidelberg. It is a few minutes walk to the Castle overlooking Old Town. The hotel has nicely kept grounds with plenty of tables and seating with nice views outside. The accommodations are pretty good, and meet all my expectations for a hotel. The price for two nights stay with pets was not bad at all.
An absolutely wonderful location. Super easy to get to the hotel from the train station and from the hotel to the city centre. A totally cool idea combining the hotel suite and the kitchen. The beds were comfy as well as the pillows. Our room was clean and cosy. It overlooked the inner garden. The staff are super friendly and helpful. I will definitely choose this hotel for my another trip to Heidelberg.
I had an amazing time in the hotel, despite staying there just for work. Everyone was so nice and helpful, it truly brightened my days.
The building is old but nevertheless, the hotel is clean and neat.
Also, the location is great: 15 minutes on foot or by public transport to Hbf and less than 30 minutes from the old town.
I will definitely stay there again next time I am visiting Heidelberg.
Exceptional service. Everything is new and well taken care of. The decore in the hallways and in the room is high quality and chic. The location is perfect - right outside the hotel there are several restaurants and bakeries as well as the tram and bus stops. The hotel is located just nine- minute walk from the city center or one tram stop. My favorite place to stay while in Heidelberg.
Gave us an upgrade and it was very nice. Always making sure we were comfortable and well taken care of. When I stay in Heidelberg, this will be my hotel of choice if available. The bathroom and room was clean. Plenty of cleaning supplies and laundry detergent if needed. Has a beautiful fish tank that we enjoyed every day we were there. Outside seating was very nice and accessible.
From 1973-1974, I lived at Schiffgasse 6 as a student at the University. Heidelberg, especially the Altstadt, is "home" for me. As a student, I didn't have a kitchen, private bathroom, or TV - 50 years later, my life has changed immensely, and I appreciate a private, comfortable property like Goethehaus! No cleaning fluid smell, not a "hotel" atmosphere.
Hotel B54 Heidelberg was very easy to find, and within walking distance of several restaurants, a pharmacy, and other stores that our family was interested in. The rates were such that we got two separate rooms for ourselves and our teenagers. It was warmer than expected that week, but the aid con worked wonderfully to keep us comfortable as we slept.
A delightful stay in a lovely hotel in the heart of old Heidelberg. The position cannot be bettered, being on the street leading from the main square to the river bridge. The restaurant serves delicious local food. Isobel is a warm and welcoming host. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable. I look forward to a return visit one day.
Located in the old town of Heidelberg this hotel makes it very easy to walk to the castle or go to the mainstreet for pub crawling or enjoying the many restaurants. From the breakfast location you can enjoy the great view of the castle. The area is very quite and great to sleep with open windows. Good value for money as well.
Without any questions: Just the location of the hotel; being in the middle of the oldtown of Heidelberg (with the amazing church right outside) is just wow. And how they have preserved the structure and interior was just amazing. The staff was fantastic as well!
The hotel is very well located in the heart of Heidelberg. You can take a tram or bus a few steps from the place, the city center is reachable by walk. The room was super clean and well maintained and the breakfast was fantastic. I really appreciated my stay.
Quiete and just 4.5km from de city center of Heidelberg, what is not problem at all because there is easy access to bus stops right in front the hotel. If you have a car is even better staying there. Breakfast good with all people need.
Really excellent value for money. This is a small private hotel without many facilities but the rooms are great and breakfast is very good andthe staff very helpful and willing. A fantastic place for basing your visit to Heidelberg.
Location was great within walking distance to the Old Town.
Room was clean and spacious even for a family of 4.
Convient with parking right at the hotel.
