Location was great all amenities close by, room was very dated and rough around the edges
Breakfast was not included in the price but was cheap enough as a Weatherspoon's
Situated between the Yorkshire Moors and Yorkshire Dales National Parks, this hotel is listed as one of England's oldest coaching inns and overlooks the cobbled market place in Thirsk.

I am really happy stay in Sutton Hall. I was not first time hire and always stay if I come to the Withby Festival

It was fun to see where author James Herriot (Alf Wight) lived, worked, and wrote. The nearby church where he was married is nice to visit and there are nice shops and restaurants in the village. We ate at The Golden Fleece and had coffee and pastry at a bakery. The train station was about a mile from the village; we walked it, but there are taxis that can be called. The village is very walkable.

Some interesting shops, Herriots was good value for money and the walks around the town were lovely although there was snow on the ground. Good entertainment in the Golden Fleece watching the staff cock up all the orders for meals and drinks! Beware of the unpleasant traffic warden who comes all the way from Scarborough so has to earn his corn and also the pieman opposite Neros which we happen to cross swords with.Staff in Herons and the Coop were exceptionally helpful.

Thirsk is a lovely place to visit.
Thirsk is a lovely place to visit. There are many cosy teashops (Upstairs, Downstairs was our preferred choice with a great selection of snacks, main meals (including daily specials) and cakes! A great Italian restaurant (Bianco), which I can highly recommend - but do book - we booked for a Wednesday evening and it was very busy! There is also a good selection of bakeries for yummy cakes, cookies and breads! Lots of charity shops for a few bargains, Co-Op, Boots & WH Smith. There is also a large Tesco supermarket just out of the town.
A visit to Thirsk wouldn't be complete without a visit to The World of James Herriot - it was brilliant!
There is also a lot of parking, both short and long stay.
All in all a great time was had by us, and I wouldn't hesitate in returning to Thirsk again!

There were lots of local shops, cafes and a local market at the weekend. The old town centre was very quaint. It wasn't too busy or too quiet. There is a locally run cinema. It is less than 20mins on the train to York. The locals are friendly.
I liked the location of the property. It’s an easy walk into Thirsk. Parking was convenient but take care parking under lime trees as sap will drop onto your vehicle. It is a pleasant street, fairly quiet and full of character.
The home was well equipped particularly the kitchen. There was a good range of information and maps about the area with helpful tips from the owners. A variety of books and games were available and the TV is large and is a smart TV too.
The main bedroom was very attractive.
The way we were greeted and put at ease from the start. This pub/hotel reminded me of how country pubs used to be. The whole community support this pub and its busy every night and the locals are great as they make you welcome
The food served here is some of the best we have eaten and the chef cooks it exactly as you want. The portions are perfect and always hot. The deserts are amazing.
We are recommending this hotel and are telling our friends about it.
Thanks guys.
The breakfasts were delicious. I had yogurt on both mornings. The salmon with avocado and then had bacon and poached egg next day.
The food was presented beautifully. You could even sit outside (weather permitting) and enjoy the lovely garden setting and listen to the birds
The location is quiet spacious and facilities are of good quality.
Not far from the interesting town centre of Thirsk.
Would recommend this accommodation and would go again.
I like the idea of a key safe. Thirsk is a very good central location and has most everything you would want. People very friendly and helpful. Interesting town too. Cottage location was great, easy walk into Thirsk and getting about to other places. The cottage is a good size for two people. The owner was very helpful. WiFi and TV very good.
The cottage was in an excellent location - quiet but only minutes from the centre of Thirsk with parking outside. The accommodation was lovely, well equipped and comfortable. The hosts were welcoming and sent information before the visit which was clear and helpful. We would certainly return in the future.
Just outside Thirsk, in an excellent position for visiting the North Yorkshire area. Modern accommodation with own entrance and good quality furnishings. Very well equipped and spotlessley clean. Andrea is a lovely host, she couldn't be more helpful and her breakfasts were super. We hope to return.
This was an excellent location to serve as our base for exploring North Yorkshire. The cottage is very cozy and we enjoyed the view of the horses and donkeys from our window. As Americans, we really missed having a coffee maker--a cheap pour-over would be a nice addition to the kitchen equipment.
The Angel at Topcliffe is a hidden gem. The staff was incredibly friendly, the meals well prepared and of exceptional value. A lovely hotel/restaurant combination. :) The breakfast was much nicer than we expected....continental options as well as much more elegant options. Well done Topcliffe.
Lovely staff, easy location to find.
Room was small but had everything you need with nice touches.
We had a meal and drinks, the menu was limited but hosts went out of the way to accommodate our preferences. Food was delicious.
Hugo the french bulldog was an absolute delight for me!😀
Cheery welcome, clean room with plenty of hot water, good choice of food for evening meal and tasty Yorkshire breakfast. All staff were friendly and Chris was particularly helpful when we had a problem with our car. Great location for exploring the Ripon and Thirsk area.
We were welcome by our host Geoffrey and mage to feel at home. Our room was large with a good ensuite and shower.
Geoffrey cooked a delicious breakfast and served us with a smile! The hotel's location is perfect for exploring the town.
Comfortable clean bed, tea making facilities and excellent breakfast served by very helpful staff. The location is excellent in the town centre. Clean towels provided daily and all toiletries provided.
The B&B is straightforward "Old School" B&B. It is good, clean, comfortable. Room, Bed and Breakfast. Good proximity to centre of Thirsk and the Market Square.
Breakfast was excellent, good variety to choose from menu. Staff very helpful and friendly. Excellent location right on Main Street and car park , behind hotel.
