Clayton Hotel Cork City, hotel in Cork

Facing Cork City Hall, the Clayton Hotel Cork overlooks the River Lee. It offers beautifully designed air-conditioned rooms, a health and spa center with pool, and a fine restaurant.

Great stay at Cork city centre, a few minutes walk from the Aircoach dropoff location and a 10-minute walk from the train station. Also, the bus to the airport departs just outside the hotel (we took it all the way to the gorgeous litte boat town Kinsale). We had a comfortable 2-night stay. The hotel has a well-equipped gym and there's a swimming pool we didn't get to use ourselves, but one of the guests told me it was great too. Breakfast options are varied and typical for the Clayton chain (Irish breakfast buffet, cold cuts, cereal options, fruit, eggs and porridge made to order, coffee, tea, juices etc.) Overall, it was a pleasant experience at a hotel that has everything you need and it is in a great location from which it's possible to tour within co. Cork using transportation.

FAQs about hotels in Cork

Irish Spirit In A Nutshell

Situated on the banks of the River Lee, Cork’s city center was originally built on marshes and many of its popular streets are constructed on the former river channels. With a thriving nightlife and a vibrant cultural scene, the Irish Republic’s second biggest city is full of surprises.

Those interested in history should pay a visit to the Cork City Gaol, an old prison transformed into one of the city’s most fascinating attractions, or join the Cork Historic Walking Tours, which have a great opportunity to learn all the city’s secrets.

For those craving more lively entertainment, the city has the famous Cork City Pub Crawl or even more exciting, the Barrack Street Challenge, where participants drink pints of beer in all bars along Barrack Street.

The shopping area is concentrated around the most famous street - St. Patrick Street. For local food specialities like crubeens, tripe and drisheen, browse bars and restaurants around MacCurtain, Washington and Oliver Plunkett Streets.

When flying to Cork Airport, you’re just a short taxi or bus ride from the lively city centre. Don’t worry about accommodations; Booking.com has plenty from convenient hotels, to cozy guesthouses and bed & breakfasts.

Cork itself does not offer much, but can be a good starting point for the Wild Atlantic Way adventures. IF you are traveling with a car. Traveling by train & public busses does not bring you to the coast etc. The City Gaol is nice to visit, good shopping options including the English market. Skipped the Blarney Castle due to high cost. So next time probably driving with a rental car, but then a stay outside a city is also an option. Very good variety of restaurants.

Great genealogy and family history day was held at the Cork County Archives. Very friendly staff and excellent speakers. I did not know this was an annual event that they held there and I would recommend it to anyone interested in genealogy. It was well attended and I understand it will be repeated next Thursday 18th April such was the demand for seats. I hope to return to the archives for research and to attend their annual family history day.

    The city was great.

The city was great. Lots of shops and places to visit nearby. There are many hills so bear in mind if your about travelling. The Old City Goal is up a huge hill so Taxi there and walk back (downhill) Taxis are cheap enough to use but some of them are cheeky with the prices. The weather was good for our stay but remember to take an umbrella as it often rains unexpectedly.

The staff is wonderful and very helpful - and the hotel itself is a museum of curiosities. We loved reading and browsing through the historical photos along the walls. I hope more people take a few extra minutes to do that bc it's pretty fascinating. The location is excellent - just a short walk to Cork's vibrant city center, and even closer to some SRO pubs (such as Sine) and great dining (Gallagher's). Also, the breakfast buffet is really delicious (and suitable for vegans), although a bit pricey.

Gorgeous views over Cork City! We spent one night here as part of a long trip around Ireland and had a great time. After arriving at the hotel we decided not to venture back to the city center and made a night of it at the Montenotte - cocktails in the bar, dinner, followed by a movie in the hotel’s theater. It wasn’t super convenient to other restaurants, etc., but was a great destination hotel.

Compared to other hotels during our trip around Ireland, this one was like a factory. Plenty of people in every place, cue to the reception. However, it was modern, rooms of reasonable size, clean. Our room had a river view, so very pleasant. Underground parking, good location.

It's walking distance to city centre so we were able to go out for dinner. Lucky because the dinner options in the hotel were terrible. The family room was big with a double and two singles. There wasn't much noise in our room - we were at the end of a corridor on the top floor.
