We had an amazing stay at Quinta Pedreira dos Anjos that is a big highlight of our trip to Portugal this fall. We were received amazingly by the hosts and the room has everything you might need for a couple of nights. Communication with the host was easy. We highly recommend the breakfast, it was one of (or the best) breakfast we had during our trip, everything was homemade the same morning. The view from the Quinta is amazing and the hosts are even better, we highly recommend!

Casa do Santo is in a lovely area of the Douro. It's a great place to relax - by the pool with the hillsides dipping down to the river in the far distance. A place to recharge batteries. The owners and staff courteous and interesting
Located 2 km from the centre of Provesende, this property features a garden with BBQ facilities. It is set on the grounds of a working farm producing olive oil and wine.

Staying on a working vineyard is a privilege. Great tasting from our host Anna. Spectacular views across the vineyards.

Fantastic location with beautiful landscaping. The vineyard is filled with wild flowers at this time of year and the walk down to the river to catch the boat was very special. Breakfast was very good - particularly the freshly squeezed orange juice (I'd guess from the estate) and the snack sandwich we had on arrival (roast beef) was AMAZING! Very helpful staff. I highly recommend.
Located in the famous Douro Valley, a region known for its rural charm and exquisite wines, this hotel offers stunning views of the surrounding hills, the vineyards, and the Pinhão River.

Spectacular location in the middle of the Douro valley, the owner is incredibly friendly and helpful and is constantly running around doing her best to make her guests feel welcome. The wines are superb and I wish we could have brought some home!
Breakfast was good as well and the structure is nice and well maintained.
Situated on Quinta do Portal vineyard in the wine-producing valley of Douro, northern Portugal, this hotel has embraced enotourism with enthusiasm.

The hotel is very beautiful, in the style of an old hacienda house, in the middle of vinyard fields. The room was very spacious and comfortable, with a balcony overlooking the vinyards. The hotel is part of a wine/port production (Quinta del Portal) and the cellars can be visited nearby.
It is a very small town. We didn’t find anywhere to have dinner but snacks and drinks were great in the little local bar. I don’t know the village history but there are a lot of derelict buildings there. It is definitely not a flash town but the locals in the bar were very friendly.

Provesende is wine country.
Provesende is wine country. Beautiful, winding and mountainous.
We stayed at a vineyard, 20 min to reach by taxi. All in all the taxi drivers played guide and it was worth the $80.00 euros for 4 trips return through the mountains.
The view from our "cabana" type accommodation was great.
The accommodation was like a hotel room.
The wine tour was the best we had in Portugal. we got to understand the history of the vineyards, taste great ports and olive oil.
PS: the wine tour included a 45 mins ride on the Douro river.
The tapas and beer served in the bars around the train station ware excellent. A 2 night stay is worth the memories
I believe that taxis is the best way to get around

This is a country village with minimal tourist opportunities. The Quinta do Manhas Duoro is outstanding and makes up for what may be missing in the village.
Great scenery. Amazing views. Wonderful wine.
You've got to have a car to get here and sometimes the roads are a bit scary!

We only scheduled ourselves a day and a half to explore this area before heading to the Sera de Estrela region, which was a mistake. The area has so much to offer that we could have spent 3-4 days and still not have been able to fit it all in. We definitely plan to return!

A tiny and unspoiled town.
A tiny and unspoiled town. Not much going on in the off-season but a lovely place to stroll and explore. Magnificent views over the very-steep vineyards of the Pinhao river. We were the only car, and very-obviously-tourists, driving through the main square, with the men playing cards in the local store, the women chatting as they walked along. Incredibly quiet and peaceful place.

Quiet little town we passed through on our way to the Hotel, Quinta Manhas Douro.
We stopped at the pizza restaurant (not just pizza!) for delicious homemade soup and fresh bread.
The Hotel was situated high up the adjacent mountain - and we wound our up and up with fabulous views.
Great Hotel, as long as you have the superior room with the terrace.. stunning view over the village below and the mountains from the window and the terrace.
Fabulous breakfast, very friendly and helpful staff.
