Historic Hobart, with its convict past, was often referred to as Australia’s neglected backwater. How times have changed as its temperate climate, quiet lifestyle and fabulous food and markets make it a revitalising tourist destination along the Derwent River in Tasmania.
The city’s significant maritime history begins at Constitution Dock, situated along the waterfront and facing the beautiful harbour. Nearby Battery Point and affluent Sandy Bay feature Georgian and Victorian architecture and the first settler’s cottages in Australia’s 2nd oldest city.
Escape to a memorable view of Hobart town from the snow-covered Mount Wellington or get close up and personal in the city’s quaint streets. Hobart comes alive during the colourful Salamanca Market, held every Saturday morning, where you can bag a bargain or sample mouth-watering produce such as local wines and cheeses.
Cascade Brewery and Cadbury’s Chocolates have tours of these Tasmanian icons or visit Wrest Point Casino, a popular event and entertainment centre.
The annual Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race in December and Tulip Festival in the Royal Botanical Gardens swells the population in this small capital city. Make sure you check Booking.com ahead of time for your colonial cottage, cosy B&B or waterfront apartment.

Hobart is a nice city for around one day.
Hobart is a nice city for around one day. I was here cause I had a tour planned departing from Hobart. The city itself is not that exciting so one day is more than enough to see the city centre. Of course, if you want to visit the MONA museum or hike up Mt Wellington you need some more days. My tour guide also said that there are a lot of nice vineyards/wineries in the surrounding area so have a look for that if that is something you like!

I really enjoyed this city but I am more of a small town vibe. Bumi coffee's sambal chilli scrambled eggs was the highlight! Sadly did witness/experienced 3 incidences of potential racism towards Asians though...

Richmond was worth a look at the convict bridge and quirky shops. The old jail was interesting. Salmon ponds were good and lunch of pancakes there was delicious! Russell falls was very pretty. Needed more than a day to see all that Hobart has to offer.

Hobart was full of interesting buildings and places to visit, particularly Constitution Dock (Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race) and MONA. It was a good place to take day trips to Bruny Island or Port Arthur and other notable places. The Salamanca Markets is a must. I was surprised at how hilly it is.

MONA was an amazing experience.
MONA was an amazing experience. Great ferry ride, interesting and sometimes challenging exhibits and meal, wait staff and entertainment at Farro restaurant were incredible.
Bus trip to MT Wellington a must also especially on a beautiful day.
The walk from the Distillery via the Women's factory and beside the river back into town was beautiful.
Room was massive, bathroom was modern with everything you needed. Nice coffee setup. Cleanliness was 10 on 10. Staff were super efficient and the icing on the cake was when the lovely woman at reception offered us her free parking in front of the hotel so we could spend the day in Hobart without having to look and pay for parking on a busy Saturday. Location was also amazing, right in the wharf central area. We enjoyed our stay here ..I'd highly recommend to anyone.
Good sized, well laid out and equipped studio. Corner unit so windows on 2 walls made in light and airy. Leafy outlook. Newish bathroom with good shower. Table and chairs for eating or looking at maps to decipher the bewildering matrix of one-way streets in Hobart. Kitchenette well equipped with dual hot plates.
20-25 minutes walk to waterfront. Uphill on the way back but plenty of $2 per hour parking stations in the CBD, or first hour free at the Woolworths one.
This property exceeded our expectations with the hosts going above and beyond to offer a unique, Tasmanian experience. Lots of complimentary extras included which were a lovely touch - most of which we didn't have time to take advantage of but the thought was appreciated none the less!
Nice to see an accommodation live up to the word "luxury" that gets thrown around alot - no cheap kmart furnishings or supermarket shampoo here. Everything was quality.
The location of the rental is perfect! The apartment was spacious and comfortable for a family of 6. All amenities one could require were available. Everything was as described and per the photos on the booking site. The access was easy and there was enough information provided by the rental provider to manage check-in, check-out and using different facilities. The parking was very helpful and the rental provider was very prompt with communication.
Excellent location and corner room had windows on three sides with views of Parliament House and the waterfront.
The food in both restaurant and at the pub was varied and delicious. Breakfast was also included in the tariff.
The reception and staff especially Nuri, Yolanda, Brock and Dave were very friendly, courteous and professional as well as very supportive when I was ill.
Highly recommend the hotel for anyone visiting Hobart.
The apartment was beautifully presented, had all the amenities we needed and the extra towels were great. It was warm and comfortable in the middle of winter. Fitted a family of 4 very easily. It was a relaxing 'home' to come back to after a day out with everyone having their own space to retreat to. Located within easy walking distance to Hobart CBD and waterfront. Our family would happily stay here again.
The hotel is housed within a beautiful old and stunningly maintained house in the best part of Hobart with a view down the Derwent River. Our room was beautiful and large with a terrific view. Breakfast is provided on a self serve basis which just makes it very relaxed. Ash, the manager, was very easy to deal with and a great host. Thoroughly recommend it as a better alternative to a 5 star hotel.
Location was exceptional: right next to the waterfront and just a short walk (5 minutes) to Salamanca and Hobart CBD. Plenty of dining and coffee options are nearby.
Room was spacious and very comfortable, more like a small mezzanine apartment with separate kitchen area.
Artwork throughout the hotel provided a great vibe and lent a unique character to the hotel.
Staff were friendly and helpful.
I liked their service, the location was great. I loved the view too, harbour view. The breakfast was not too bad. For 35 dollar for buffet not too bad. Limited choices but worthy the price. I loved their pastries. The twin double bed were great for 3 of us as a family. I think this hotel is the best in hobart. I will come back for sure.
Well-located hotel, between Hobart's centre and the waterfront. Room was very clean, and seemed recently refurbished. Size was small but comfortable. The bathroom was also very clean. Days that I was there were very hot, and the air conditioner was very effective. Service was very efficient, staff were friendly, I had no issues.
The hotel was in a great location - an easy walk to the waterfront, shops & restaurants in the CBD. The staff were helpful & friendly. We had a spacious room with a harbour view. The main eating area was fantastic & reasonably priced as we were staying in Hobart Mon- Wed when it was very quiet in the city & not much was open.
Quiet location within a few minutes of Hobart CBD - the apartment is fully renovated with modern furniture and bedding
There are good kitchen appliances, ceramic electric cooktop and microwave, dishwasher and washing machine - luxury cutlery and utensils.
Large Flatscreen TV and free Wifi rounds up the facilities.
An older style hotel but still comfortable and about 3km from CBD of Hobart. Bed very comfortable and windows that can be opened to let fresh air into rooms unlike sealed rooms in more modern hotels. Host Kevin cooks an excellent breakfast of bacon, eggs and fried tomatoes plus toast jam and coffee to follow.
A beautiful spacious, clean, modern room with full facilities; a view capturing the history of Hobart's Constitution Dock.
The hotel is excellently placed to access the markets, CBD and is easily located when arriving from the airport and for travelling out of Hobart on tours.
A very charming hotel with great hosts. We loved eating breakfast in the dining room each morning and our room was really spacious. The location was fantastic for exploring Hobart CBD, Battery Point, Salamanca and the Waterfront.
Booked this hotel for our visit to Hobart, clean hotel but could do with a refurb (some parts are quiet tired) away from this, location good.
We ended up stayiing twice.
Excellent location right in the heart of Hobart city, big room with a large queen comfortable bed. This truly a very nice hotel to stay in. Beautiful dinning area.
