This is an excellent little boutique hotell with a nice position in the end at Matemwe beach. It has a good size pool close to the beach. A neat restaurant and a cozy lounge section.
The hotell is the perfect size, not to big nor to small. The rooms are very big and tidy and the overall atmosphere is fantastic. But what really stands out is the management and staff. Super friendly and helpful in a most genuine way.

Wonderful location just next to beach. Nice swimming pool and hammocks in a shaded area. Clean, spacious rooms with good air conditioning, mosquito nets and staff who treated the room to get rid of insects. The restuarant has a lovely view over the beach and sea, and staff were generally attentive and helpful.

Me and my husband have been traveling a lot, but we are blowed away from this amazing place. Wow what a hotel and staff! From day one, they took care of us in a way that made us feel welcomed, relaxed and comfortable. This is so important for us, so staying here for 10 days was easy and a wonderful stay.
Thankyou so much to everyone who made our days our best. A special thanks to Leigh and her staff in the reception, the restaurant (wonderful young people allways smiling) and a BIG bow for the chef. The food here is beyond expectations. Everything is fresh, delightful and tastes wonderful. We had the all inclusive and it was worth every penny.
Again, thankyou to all of you, for making our stay so amazing.
We will definitely come back!

We stayed in this hotel for 6 nights. We absolutely loved every part of our stay. We had the feeling that all employees are happy and satisfied, which made our stay especially enjoyable. The location was great and we loved our morning and evening walks on the beach. The food was the best we had during our entire Tanzania trip. Huge compliment to the chef, he's really talented. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Loved the little book corner with the games and the afternoon cake and coffee! The owners are very friendly and welcoming and often came by for a chat. Thank you for this beautiful memory!

It’s very quiet, very few non hotel restaurants, overpriced food everywhere, can’t swim in the sea unless you don’t mind knee deep water. There’s no town, or town centre outside the beach hotels, so a long stay would be challenging if you want more than just lounging by the hotel pool.

Matemwe and its area is a quiet place where you can relax and enjoy the beach, the activities (snorkeling, swimming with dolphins) especially if you are a couple, because the village is not very full of enterteinments or night parties.

Crystal clear water - despite there being sea urchins - if you have rock/ aqua shoes - you can still swim and explore the waters and reefs.
The beaches are a lot quieter and peaceful than the busier beaches up north.
The tides are also fascinating to watch- you can walk out to the reefs and cycle along the beaches when they go out!

Marafiki gets a 10/10 from us on all fronts - breakfast, lunch, dinner, pool, cleanliness, hospitality, music, sustainability, beach, communication.
My husband and I stayed 4 nights at Marafiki after our Safari and had the most fabulous time. The rooms were very clean and quiet, and beautifully set up.
The food is exceptional - please try the tuna tartar and all the specials!
We had a relaxing time at the spa - you must try the full body scrub and massages.
We used the free kayaks during sunset and enjoyed the stunning view from the water. The water is shallow so even if you go far, you can get off the kayak and swim.
Since the hotel is east facing - sunrise is exceptionally beautiful. The water is still and shallow, and you can see all the fisherman walk up to the reef to catch the fish.
The hotel also arranged a cooking lesson in Matamwe village for us - we learned how to cook ‘muchuzi’ from scratch which was a very meaningful experience.
Overall- no negatives. We had the best time and will be back!

The beach is beautiful, but it's not really a beach you can swim on - there's a big tidal range - when it comes in it's quite choppy with lots of seaweed, and when it's out its corally with lots of urchins. But it's interesting to watch the local people looking for octopus and shellfish every day.
It's quite a quiet area - all the bars are part of hotels. A few nice local restaurants around. Quite a lot of beach touts, which we found off putting. Not loads of activities to do in the area - 1/2 day snorkelling/dolphin watching trips at Mnemba Island basically.
This place is super nice, the rooms are so spacious and very comfy with all the facilities. They also have the best sunset from the hotel rooftop. Staff and owners are very friendly too.
The location is 10-15min walk to the beach which is ok during the day but at night if you want to have dinner outside, it doesn't seem very safe (gets dark and you can't see much). So we had dinner at their restaurant and food was so so good, but the prices are more expensive than what we mostly paid in other hotels restaurants in Zanzibar.
Loved that the facilities are clean with it being a fairly new hotel! The food is amazing. Purni in the dining area is amazing! Everything is amazingA There is something for everyone at the buffet! The best part was the free gelatos! We miss them!!! The apps make it easy to manage the dining experiences. Overall ...amazing 5 star holiday resort with beautiful, white sandy beaches and clear, turquoise water👏👏and you will be happy to know we have sent many family members to the same hotel already. Excellent family resort✅️
The property is very well maintained and clean. The staff was very very friendly and helpful. They always had a smile to share.
The place is very beautiful and peaceful and the staff is making sure that you feel welcomed and that you have no worries. Breakfast and the food in general is super delicious! Everything is fresh and homemade or homegrown - DELICIOUS!
Also you can book all kind of activities with them! They really make sure that you will never forget Zanzibar!
We had an amazing time at Zanziblue!
We had booked for 3 nights and stayed for a week when our plans went wrong. The staff were so kind to us and helped us in a time of need. The hotel itself is beautiful. We had previously had a few nights at a busy area so this was perfect to be away from everything. It was very calm and the rooms and pools were beautiful. The beach is pretty much private due to the position of the hotel. We felt like this was the ‘Zanzibar’ we had imagined. We would stay here again.
I spent a total of 17 days in Zanzibar house on a solo vacation. I highly recommend this hotel. It’s a great place to relax and the location on the beach is just exquisite. The hospitality from the staff was fantastic, they were well mannered and catered to my needs. I was also moved by the kindness of Max and Mariam, they were very kind to me when I fell ill during my holiday. I can’t say enough of how much I enjoyed my time there.
We had a great time in this hotel, we came for two nights and stayed for five !
The hotel is well located in the middle of the Matemwe beach, many restaurants are not far,
The personnel is lovely and accommodating
The rooms overlooking the pool and the sea are just a great value for money choice, you can hear the waves as you fall asleep, it’s idyllic
Good restaurant with fair prices, good breakfast (eggs, pancakes, fruits)
This hotel was the best we staying in during our trip to Zanzibar. The decor, service, atmosphere and location were exceptional. The highlight was the standard of the food and cocktails - easily best food we had. And the breakfast buffet! It was top class. We hope to come again to this special place.
We had a lovely stay at the Zanzibar retreat. The food is fantastic (we ate almost every meal at the hotel), the beachfront is beautiful, and the staff is very friendly. The room had AC and was very comfortable. The perfect place to spend a couple of days enjoying Zanzibar and relaxing.
If you’re looking for a small hotel with peace and quiet, and understated luxury (the barefoot version), then Marafiki is the perfect spot. We had the double sized room with balcony and fabulous ocean views. The staff are amazing, and so is the food. And do try the cocktails!
We spend 4 nights in the Zanzibar retreat hotel and we had a wonderful time. The staff and the manager were very nice and helpful. The location is exceptional and the pool was a plus as it is not always okay to swim in the ocean. The restaurant and breakfast were excellent.
We had a great stay at Alladin Boutique Beach Hotel. Very clean hotel with very nice staff! Ideal hotel to relax. The hotel is also a few meters away to some good diving clubs which was very handy. Overall, we had a great stay and would stay again without hesitation.
Vic and Andrew were very friendly and help whenever needed. The villa also had great location proving access to the nicest part of the beach. Last but far from least the Rock Villas restaurant severed amazing food and had great staff! Best food we ate in Zanzibar!
The staff was extremely friendly and caring. Nothing is lacking during the entire stay.
The beach at Matemwe is beautiful and the dive school Scubafish, located at the hotel, is a professional crew that offers the perfect tour to Mnemba Island reef.
Zanzibar Queen is an amazing hotel with a wonderful garden and cozy atmosphere, fantastic and friendly staff, tasty food. Rooms are well equipped. Beach is pristine, super quiet. We really enjoyed our stay and can only recommend.
Incredibly positioned on Matemwe Beach where twice a day it feels like the sea is a step away. Couldn’t get closer to the beach! Eva and Sylvia are wonderful hosts. An amazing experience. I will definitely be visiting again.
mr pako the owner is very helpful and active. he helped us with everything , tours and taxi booking and he even helped me fix my bag.
the hotel is near the beach.
the wifi is very good.
there are some local shops near by
It’s a very good location and very quiet place. The ocean is amazing. The breakfast was good, like everywhere in Zanzibar, for us is enough. Staff was friendly and attentive. Dear Simba thank you for everything ♥️
Beautiful hotel with very friendly and helpful staff. Perfect location right next to the beach in the calm area of Matemwe. The restaurant serves delicious foods and drinks. Would definitely stay there again.
