Located in Kumamoto, 2.3 km from Hosokawa Residence Gyobutei, Tudzura provides air-conditioned rooms and a bar. Lovely traditional style hostel walking distance from station. Stayed in a private room which was clean and comfortable. As pre-warned walls are literally paper thin but didn’t have any problems with noise from other guests. Host was friendly, spoke great English and gave some good eating and sake recommendations

Only a 3-minute walk from JR Aso Train Station, Aso Base Backpackers offers affordable accommodation with free Wi-Fi. Guests can use the free parking on-site. Aso Shrine is a 10-minute drive away. The staff is friendly and helpful to answer all the questions you might have. The location is near the train stations, which is easy to take the public transportation. The common area is where you can meet and chat other travelers and share your stories with each others. You can also put your luggages into the safe place even after checking out.

Set in Minami Aso, 32 km from Egao Kenko Stadium Kumamoto, Momiji hostel offers accommodation with a garden, free private parking and a shared lounge. Our stay at Momiji was great! The old Japanese house was warm and homey and the hosts were kind and welcoming. Two cats were a bonus. Dinner at the Thai restaurant was exceptional and highly recommended! I would be back anytime and ideally would stay for longer!

Set in Tamana, 20 km from Hirayama Hot Spring, HIKE offers air-conditioned accommodation and a shared lounge. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. The room was large and clean. Our room was the family room with a decent sized playhouse inside where the kids play and even sleep. The building is old, but has been remodeled and is comfortable. The baked goods in the cafe on the 1st floor are delicious, and the cafe is whimsical and charming. There’s a kid’s playroom at the back of the cafe which was great for us, a group with lots of kids. There are also many ceramic wares by local artists for sale. I’d like to visit when the weather is cooler and explore the neighborhood.

Very good system of dormitory, still kind of private, very good value! Facilities are new, and the staff is very helpful. Very classy for a dormitory!
