600 year old stone cottage on a working farm built by the Normans overlooking the Mourne Mountains and Irish sea. Beautiful walks to the nearby lighthouse where the miniture ponies are kept. Walking distance to Bright castle 18 hole golf course. You will have your own driveway for parking, own garden and orchard, your own front door, hallway and large bedroom. The bathroom and large kitchen is shared with other guests or the host.

We love meeting people from around the world, John is a historian and has all the local history which he loves to share about this ancient healing place where Saint Patrick carried out his first baptism over the fields and is buried up the road in Downpatrick. John's family have lived and farmed here for 600 years and Bright races were held on the farm where there is a natural racing grandstand. This was before the racecourse moved to nearby Downpatrick. John continues the farming and racehorse tradition and keeps racehorses, he breeds cattle and keeps miniture ponies at the lighthouse. You may feed the ponies each morning if you wish when he goes to tend to them. This is also a petting farm with hens, chick's, geese, lambs, sheep, a sheep dog, goats and donkeys Rosie,Maggie and baby Pat. John is also an actor and won best actor at Canne for the short film "Shine", he is due to star in upcoming film about the lighthouse which his friend Harry manned for years. John is also an events manager and hosts a Christmas market at the farm (Dec 17th as well as a cross community crib event.) I have a long history of being a superhost and love Art, cooking, interior design and gardening :). It is important to note that the bathroom is shared with other guests or us and is separate to the bedroom.

Welcome to the Kingdom of Mourne, CAR is Essential for exploring. There are many beautiful walks nearby, for instance to Bright Church for panoramic views, to Bright Castle and 18 hole golf course to Saint Johns lighthouse close to Coney Island made famous by Van Morrison. There are a number of beaches nearby, Tyrella is the nearest blue flag beach and Rossglass, Kilclief and Ballyhornan are popular with swimmers. County Downs answer to Stonehenge is at the nearby Ballynoe stone circle ancient monument. It also has its own smaller version of the dark hedges. Inch Abbey and Down Catheral are worth a visit in Downpatrick. Villages and towns for day trips or to go out for a meal. Killough village nearby has a great pub called the Ann Boal Inn with spectacular sea views over to Coney Island and many great hiking trails. Duffys is the family run supermarket there and at just over a mile from the cottage it specialises in Artisan foods and beers. Everything you need for your holiday can be found here with friendly helpful service. Have a Spa day in nearby Slieve Donard 5 star hotel in beautiful seaside town Newcastle or visit nearby Strangfords great restaurants, the Lobsterpot, the Cuain and the Artisan Cookhouse for the best seafood in the world showcased on James Martin cookery programme. There are also many fine eateries in Downpatrick and Ardglass. Castleward house and gardens is a must see on the road to Strangford. Castlewellan, Rostrevor and Newry City or the Giants Causeway can be visited on day trips, Belfast City is just one hour away for serious shopping, a visit to Titanic meuseum or to see a show. Explore the magnificant coast all around the cottage area. The stunning fishing village of Ardglass is just 4 miles away with its ancient castle and 18 hole golf course by the sea or killough village can be visited for more great walks. The locals are all very friendly and helpful.
