Wakamatsu Hot Spring Resort

Yunokawa Onsen, Hakodate

Boasting open-air hot spring baths and ocean views, Wakamatsu Hot Spring Resort is a 15-minute drive from JR Hakodate Station. Free parking is available on site. Delicately prepared Japanese meals are offered.

Featuring tatami (woven-straw) flooring and traditional futon bedding, each room comes with a flat-screen TV and a fridge. The en suite bathroom has a bath tub and free toiletries. The dinner and breakfast were absolutely amazing. The food is some of the best Washoku I have had in a long long time. The room had a massive double king bed and a beautiful view of the ocean. The private onsen was also so amazing. Apparently, one of the taxi drivers my partner and I took mentioned that Emperor Hirohito back in Showa 1954 had apparently stayed at this location many years ago. That should pretty much describe how amazing this place is.

Hotel Kifu Club Shiretoko

Utoro Onsen, Shari

The air-conditioned rooms come with a flat-screen TV, a fridge and a seating area with low tables. Japanese Yukata robes are provided for all guests and the en suite bathroom comes with a free amenities. A lovely small hotel facing the Sea of Okhotsk where you can see a beautiful sunset right in front of your room. The Japanese-style room is spacious with a large window facing the sea. The private open bath is excellent. At dinner, you get the chance to make a variety of tempura by yourself which is kind of fun. This hotel is not far from Oshinkoshin Waterfalls and the Shiretoko Nature Center and the five lakes. I will definitely come back again, perhaps in mid-February to see the ice floes in front of this hotel.
