Thanks for a wonderful stay. It was my second time at Dewa San San and I can highly recommend Tamonkan.

Food is incredible - deserves a bib gourmand! Rooms are large and comfortable with a view. Onsen is lovely. The best is the free alcohol and hot drink service in the evenings around the fireplace. Definitely stay here if you can! It’s once in a lifetime type stuff

Of all the hotels and ryokans I stayed at during my two weeks traveling Japan, the night at Tsukasaya Ryokan was by far my favorite. Mrs. Shoji personally came out and greeted me at my taxi. From that moment onward, I felt as if I was receiving an experience personalized just for me. After showing me to my room, Mrs. Shoji informed me of several local attractions (parks, shrines, temples, etc.) that were lovely to visit prior to returning for dinner.
Every moment of the stay felt thoughtfully crafted and authentic. The food was delicious, containing many dishes that I had never before experienced. The onsen, while small and enclosed, was at just the right temperature and left my skin feeling the best it has in years. The design of the structure was charming and authentic (as best that a foreigner like myself can judge). The staff were friendly and accommodating.
Mount Haguro, Tsuruoka
Situated among spiritual mountains with a rich history, Hagurokan offers traditional Japanese-style guest rooms in a historic building. Haguro Pagoda, one of Japan’s National Treasures, is a 20-minute drive away. Free WiFi is available throughout the property. We had a lovely stay at Hagurokan. Excellent Japanese hospitality- we felt very welcomed and cared for. The ryokan itself is beautiful, and the traditional meals were so good. Every dish was delicious and thoughtfully prepared. The bed was very comfortable. Highly recommend!

Beautiful setting; the room had everything we needed; public areas for relaxing we’re comfortable and inviting. The staff and service was superb; the food was excellent.
Semi Onsen, Mogami
Situated just 14 km from Shinjo Station, Kansyokan provides accommodation in Mogami with access to pool with a view, an open-air bath, as well as a lift. Each accommodation at the 4-star ryokan has mountain views, and guests can enjoy access to a hot spring bath and a spa centre. The ryokan features rooms with air conditioning, free private parking and free WiFi. First off, this is not a place to stay in if you know zero Japanese. With that out of the way, I really like this place as a getaway. I was floored by their hospitality. The staff went ABOVE and BEYOND for us. We got off at the wrong train station and they sent a driver to pick up us at that station in the heavy snow storm. He even picked up both our heavy luggage with his hands and carried it to his car 50 metres away in the thick snow. My only regret was not knowing if tipping was considered rude and ended up only expressing our gratitude with a simple thank you. Beautiful view, great onsen with indoor and outdoor option. Really enjoyed the breakfast and dinner too. Make sure you book a meal in advance as dining options in the vicinity is limited.

Hosts were extremely helpful and friendly. They made sure we were comfortable with an extra futon, recommended vegetarian places, and showed us the onsen and where to rent equipment. It has a communal vibe, so extroverted people would love it.
- Great hospitality - amazing onsen (both traditional outside the hotel and within the hotel) - yukata - fantastic breakfast
Everything is really nice, it is an old style ryokan and very good hot spring. Room is spacious with view. Was able to use the washing machine for free! Located on the main hot spring street , walkable to the Ropeway. Lots of restaurants nearby however some required advance booking. The hosts are very lovely and nice. If you want to experience authentic ryokan this will be the place to go
Nice ryokan and Onsen in the room I definitely the highlight. No room service but have a nice lounge with free coffee tea water etc and can work or read a book. Place is in great condition considering how old it is. The public bath is ok nothing special and food is pretty good but again nothing special. Overall we had a nice stay but the place is starting to show its age.
Amazing experience at the Ryokan. Rooms are really nice and the Onsen and food are great
The onsen offers one of the best experiences at Meitoya So. The hotel staff will make the futon bed for you during the evening. The breakfast spread was acceptable. The western bed was comfortable too.
It’s well located. Close to the most famous onsen in Zao. The rooms are typical ryokan room, but I had to set my own futon. Onsen are great too
Yoshidaya Ryokan is a beautifully presented traditional ryokan. Its right in the middle of the old part of Zao Onsen surrounded by historic buildings. This is a traditional Ryokan so be prepared to walk up stairs and use shared facilities. The rooms are very warm and comfortable and the Ryokan facilities are well presented and clean. The Hot Spring bath was wonderful! I will be staying at Yoshidaya again!
