This family-run guest house is located in a former farmhouse, 6 km from the Hraunfossar and Barnafoss waterfalls. It offers basic rooms with private or shared bathroom facilities.

The 9-hole Húsafell Golf Club is a 10-minute walk away. The Surtshellir caves are 14 km away, while Reykholt village is 25 km from Gamli Bær Guesthouse.

Gemli Baer is magical. An old Farmhouse, meeting place of important artists in mid 20th century, renovated in the 1990s but preserving the old style Icelandic features, it’s filled with books and photographs and art. The host is super accommodating. Lovely breakfast of porridge and waffles!

I can't thank the Hotel Manager enough! Iceland was experiencing unprecedented weather with -20 temperatures. We had booked a lodge with a hot tub but because of the cold, the pipes had frozen. Naturally we were disappointed, it was my 50th birthday and we had visions of seeing the Northern lights from the tub. The Hotel Manager went way above what we expected, he moved us to another lodge and personally oversaw the filling of the new hot tub, ensuring it reached the right temperature. At 9pm whilst in the tub we saw aurora borealis! What a memory! Thank you!

Very locations with view 360 degrees around the house in the valley/hills. There are several walks signposted. We did a nice one around the village, one through a valley up to a small hot spring, and one into a valley very near by. The questhouse has got a lot of charm as a former farm, and is nicely painted in warm colours. The host really enjoyed to have quests, and favoured them with warm homemade waffles, and a very good soup in the evening. We have breakfast together with the other guests, which was nice; breakfast was good.
