One of the best hotels we stayed in Sri Lanka. The Bungalow is directly at the beach (10 meters, so it is really part of the beach). You can hear the ocean while falling asleep. The breakfast was great and the staff is always nice, esp. Barbara who is owning the place. Drinking water is for free at the bar. They have 2 Beachvolleyball courts and offer Yoga for a fair price. We could have stayed there forever :)

My recent stay at Charming Dark Lodge in River was nothing short of exceptional, marking it as the best homestay experience I have ever encountered. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with warmth and hospitality that exceeded all expectations. The highlight of our stay was undeniably our incredible host, who spared no effort in ensuring our comfort and satisfaction. From delicious lunches and dinners to delightful surprises and the most mouth-watering fish barbecue - probably the best meal I have had in the two months I have been in Sri Lanka. Beyond the culinary delights, our room was a sanctuary of comfort and style. Immaculately clean, equipped with a kitchen containing everything one could possibly need, and beautifully built and decorated. Originally intending to stay for four nights, we found ourselves captivated by the charm of Charming Dark Lodge, extending our stay to twelve nights. Departing was bittersweet, as we had grown attached to the unparalleled hospitality and the tranquil ambiance of our temporary home. A particularly memorable moment was celebrating my birthday during our stay. Our host went above and beyond to ensure it was an unforgettable occasion, adding a personal touch that truly made me feel special. Quiet, nice and brand new hotel. Stuff is extraordinary kind, the food was brilliant. If I ever meet the owner, i'm going to ask him who planned the bathrooms :) Honestly we had nothing to complain. On top area around the infinty pool was the perfect place to chill after a long day! Make sure you take a tuk tuk to the beach and go swimming with turtles, best expierence during the whole vacation!

The bungalows were very nicely made, with a lot of attention to detail and considering the needs of the guests. We really enjoyed our stay. It was spotless clean and all amenities were super new. There was also a shared kitchen in the garden that we can use. In the morning we were surprised by the size and quality of the breakfast. Owners really do their job with care and love. I would definitely book it again. The location was not right by the Unawatuna Beach but it is easy to access by public or walking. Also, a nice hike to the Jungle Beach.
