Surrounded by Lake Geneva and glorious Alpine peaks, tranquil Montreux has enchanted artistes through the ages. Lord Byron was so inspired by the style and setting of waterfront Château de Chillon that he wrote a poem about it. Nowadays it is one of Switzerland’s most popular attractions.
Freddie Mercury also fell in love with Montreux and a lakefront statue in Place du Marché commemorates this former resident in typical pose, with one arm raised to the heavens. Queen fans flock here for the annual Memorial Day, just one musical festival hosted by this town. The most famous is the 2-week Montreux Jazz Festival, held in the Music & Convention Centre.
On the opposite side of town is Audiorama (the Swiss National Audiovisual Museum), near a funicular railway which climbs the hill. Further up the slopes is the family-friendly Rochers-de-Naye ski area, while the Les Pléiades pistes overlook neighbouring Vevey. Down at the quayside wooden chalets house stalls of the annual Christmas market.
Summer activities include boat trips, hiking and the Montreux-Oberland-Bernois narrow gauge railway whose trains allow you to really savour the views…and a nice cup of coffee.
The train station also connects to Geneva, site of the nearest airport, and Booking.com offers luxury hotels, apartments with views and cheap B&Bs nearby.

It's a wonderful small town on the bord of Geneva lake where you can find peace, quiet, meditate and reflect as you wish to find your inner self. It's different from other swiss cities and once you were here might understand why Freddie loved it so much.

Montreux is a wonderful region that one can spend 3-4 days in easily. The lake side views are phenomenal. One can choose from multiple options such as visit vineyards around Vevey, take a train ride from Vevey to Laussane (regional one not the fast trains), explore Chillon castle, do a trip on golden express or glacier express, take a trip to Roches de Nayers and just relax and enjoy scenic beauty of the region. Highly recommended

Montreux is a wonderful location to spend your holiday.
Montreux is a wonderful location to spend your holiday. It has many restaurants to dine at. The view of the lake is stunning. There is plenty of public transport, and with free passes you can travel all around the town. And also there are a couple of free train journeys for you to travel up the mountain side. And should you feel lucky, you can try your luck at the Casino which is just across the road from the Hotel.

Two night/three days in Montreux barely scratched the surface of all the things to see and do. The charm, the location, culture and sheer beauty, especially along the lakefront captured my heart. May it capture yours, too!

Great for using as a base for travelling. Good boat trips on the lake and recommended for the Christmas Market. Riviera card saved some money when travelling with free bus travel between Vevey and Villeneuve along the lakeside.

Wonderful place.
Wonderful place. The city is confined in a narrow region between the lake and steep mountain, but still well organized without mess. There are several parking buildings which was ok during the jazz fest in September. So many wonderful places to visit if you take mountain trains from Montreux.
The host, Thomas, was really nice guy. He volunteered some advices how to get around Montreux interesting places, including the seasonal Xmas market. He was really friendly to accomodate our needs and provided assistance to carry our luggages. The B&B were spacious and have dining areas at 2nd and 3rd floor respectively. There are amenities for guests to prepare their own meals. I like the breakfast. The varieties could compete with some hotels, honestly. Definitely a good place to stay.
I found this hotel to be a great quality/price option for visiting Montreux - the location is excellent and the room was large, with a very comfortable bed. Good breakfast options. Easy to find parking on the side street and the hotel sellers full and half-day parking permits (they also gave us a blue disc which proved really useful throughout our trip in Switzerland!). We had dinner one evening at the restaurant as well and the food was excellent.
Delightful stay in an idyllic location - the hotel is an absolute gem of a property, and the restaurant provided a fantastic dinner quite late on our arrival evening. Although the tickets aren't cheap, the hotel is right next to the funiculaire which takes you right up to the top of the mountains at 2,000m, with some unforgettable sights (and option to walk back down). Will definitely be back on our next trip to Switzerland!
Firstly we had luggage and to go to the hotel from train station we had to climb down a long staircase and to the reception thr was another short stairs. Worst of all the lift to the rooms was nightmare. We waited for more than 15min and the lift is old. Beds not comfy. Balcony tiny. Shower head no preasure. The whole hotel is old! The worst hotel in switzerland. Staff were rude and not helpful at all.
The location of this hotel is excellent if visiting for the Montreux Jazz Festival as the free bus is 4 minutes walk from the hotel and it's a 10 minute ride down to the heart of the event. All the staff were helpful and welcoming which added to the enjoyment of the stay. Breakfast was very modest but sufficient to start every day.
This is probably the 5th or 6th time we have been to Hotel Victoria. It is a classic older hotel impeccably maintained. The views to Lake Geneva are amazing. Fabulous restaurant. Superior service from all staff. The owner greets you and sends you off with a box of chocolate when you leave. This is our absolute favorite hotel.
I like that it was easy from train station and bus station is located just infront once you step outside. It only 1 stop to the with the bus.
I liked that you get a free bus ticket and we could go on boat ride 10% off.
Definitely If I get a chance to visit Montreux I will definitely book my stay in the same hotel.
The location (to the train station and the lake) are amazing - you are half a block if that from each. Great for the Xmas markets! The apartment is grand and has many beautiful features with wonderful linens and pillows and all the comforts of a 5 star hotel. I loved the views directly onto the lake.
Charming older hotel with artful touches. Staff were efficient and pleasant! Our room had two balconies so we could enjoy the lake breezes and views. Breakfast was super. And most importantly it’s an easy walk from the train station and to the Montreux Jazz Festival venues! Definitely would stay again
We had a fantastic view of Lake Geneva. The balcony was lovely to sit out on and watch people go by. Lovely quaint hotel, with very friendly staff. David at the reception is warm and friendly and truly loves his country of Switzerland. Can you blame him - you'll love it, too.
Of 7 hotels in Switzerland that we stayed in on our travels, this was the highest price, but also was the nicest hotel too. The facility is very good, location excellent (right across the street from the train station) and what food we ate was very good!
Got lured by the old fashioned property charm pictures that have been put up on Booking.com by the hotel
- The view from the hotel terrace was nice
- The receptionist was the only helpful lady who also happened to speak & understand English
Hotel location is really good and their room provides the best view of Lake Geneva.
Their staff is really cooperative and supportive.
Hotel serves good breakfast spread.
Montreux is one of best lively city for nature lovers.
very well located next to the lake. Spacious room. Very good breakfast. Friendly and helpful staff.
Its an old-fashioned hotel with beautiful and spacious lobby area.
