A nice, small, medieval town.
The town hall is not quite as dramatic as it appears on the photos, but there are many nice buildings to see.
It has a few nice restaurants (though several quite expensive).
Access to several of the churches was problematic (they were open only rarely) - this is a shame.

The city is nice to walk in. Bare in mind the evening closes around 5pm except restaurants.
There is a castle on top of the hill. Nice tour. You can spend about 90 minutes there. The entry costs 9€.
It is a great starting point for hiking in the Harz Nation Park area.

Wernigerode is a picturesque small town worth visiting.
Wernigerode is a picturesque small town worth visiting. The main attraction (especially if not German) is the steam rail network of HSB with numerous routes of which the most preferred is the assent to the Brocken mountain. The town offers more attractions and places to see though. Food selection is rather limited and the dining hours typically German.

The big draw is the narrow gauge steam railway.
The big draw is the narrow gauge steam railway. There is also plenty of walking in the surrounding countryside. My interest is in mining history, and this is right in the centre of the mining area, with show mines including the Rammelsberg world heritage site. My other interest is in Romanesque architecture and the town is well situated for exploring the Strasse der Romanik - a trail of Romanesque churches, cathedrals and castles. Wernigerode itself is a very pretty town, and has been beautifully restored since reunification. it has a castle and a number of museums.

What a beautiful old town and a very handy base to explore the Harz area. A short walk to the Railway stations of both the Harz Railway where you can take a steam train to the Brocken summit - reputedly the home of witches, an the DB station where I would recommend a trip to nearby Goslar. There is one of those little tourist trains that can take you around the historic old streets in both towns. Wernigerode also holds outdoor music festivals in the Market Square in August.

It is a charming historic baroque town- a treasure to find anywhere in the world in the 21st Century ! The town is vibrant with delightful walkways and has a great range of cafes and restaurants. The delightful fairy-tale castle can be reached on foot and is a must see for the spectacular views and because it is stuffed with beautiful furnishings and historical artefacts.
Very conveniently located right in the centre of Wernigerode, a city located at the Harz mountain range, small yet beautiful. We like to stop here during our end of year holiday transit. The city has a very cosy christmas market. The hotel is very good for families with kids. It offers spacy and comfortable studio rooms, with a separate bedroom and a kitchenette. We were able to charge our car overnight at the charger available at the hotel's parking.
I really enjoyed my stay at the hotel. The room is clean and spacious, equipped with everything you need. Breakfast is good. I was especially pleased with the surprise that the hotel staff arranged for my birthday - for breakfast our table was festively decorated and my wife and I received a glass of dry sparkling wine. Very good short trekking route with a beautiful observation tower in the end.
the Boutique Hotel is located 3 walking minutes from the centre of Wernigerode, lots of restaurants and bars around. the hotel is brand new, quality designed rooms, spotless clean, the staff is extremely friendly. they also have the wine bar downstairs with a very good selection of wines, very recommended for a dinner, just try to book in advance. the breakfast was very high quality.
The hotel is situated on the northeast end of Breite Straße, the main street of Wernigerode and it is not far from the main train station. The room is comfortable. Wi-fi is good.
I like the breakfast here. There are several selections to choose from, both hot and cold items.
Please note that the hotel reception access is on Grüne Straße which is a side street off Breite Straße.
The host was really lovely and gave us recommendations on where to go for breakfast, advising that we should reserve them ahead of time due to the crowds over the weekends. And she was right! We had a great breakfast buffet just next door. Coffee machine in the hotel was also available for guests for free. Very much appreciated.
Location of the hotel is also very central.
- 6 minutes walk to both the Wernigerode Central station and to the steam train up to the Brocken
- Old town, castle, etc are all at walking distance
- Nice staff at the reception
- Good breakfast options
-Tickets for local buses and trams running along the Harz region are free during the stay (you gotta stay overnight for this)
Frank is great.
We had some problems with a delayed train and he waited for us with no problem, and greeted us with a big smile when we arrived the city. He drew us some recommendations and helped us with some concerns we had in order to feel welcomed to Wernigerode.
This was a wonderful vacation apartment with friendly hosts. The apartment is located within walking distance from Schloss Wernigerode and the town. The apartment is clean, comfortable, quiet, and modern. This is the perfect place to stay for a getaway in the Harz!
Beautiful hotel in the centre of town. Very good breakfast. Runny eggs, perfectly crispy bacon. The beds were nice, not too soft. Everything was cozy and clean. Only the view from the room was less. Looking out on another roof.
Great little apartment with garden in a perfect location. Easy to find and great parking spot in front of the house. 5 minute walk to the centre of Wernigerode, local shops, restaurants and supermarkets.
Second time i stay here! Roomsare big. Breakfast is nice and the staff is SO FRIENDLY. We will come back !
they also have a parking. And the swimming pool is small, but super clean. Love this hotel
An excellent rural German guest-house. Charming, clean, and comfortable. We especially enjoyed the breakfast. It was great to be able to park easily. Very convenient for exploring Wernigerode.
Friendly, pleasant and spotless hotel in excellent central location in a beautiful historic town. Excellent restaurant. Our second time here, as good as it was six years ago.
All facilities and all rooms were very clean, tidy and just like new. Very well managed hotel. The breakfast was fantastic, with a huge buffet and even lactose-free products.
