Chiang Mai is mostly flat; the old town being defined by a rectangular "moat" . There are many interesting temple sites and places where markets are held, some of which are quite special. The people are delightful and are used to their town being inundated with foreigners. There is plenty of nightlife when the temperature is easier than the daytime heat. There is a huge range of eateries. The street food I found much preferable to some of the food "courts" especially set up for visitors. Shopping is endless. All is centered to make visitors spend money. avoid trips to shops nearby (ride will be offered by tuc tuc drivers) it is just a scam, nothing is like try to show..... In general there is nothing really interesting to do overthere, national park visit is also nothing, not interesting.

Loved that I had an enclosed balcony that looked over the garden. The owners were lovely: friendly and really helpful in arranging a taxi for the airport and having my room ready earlier than the check in time, which I much appreciated.
