Ninh binh as a city is nothing much.
Ninh binh as a city is nothing much. About 6-8km to the west are beautiful limestone karsts covered with vegetation with rivers running around and through them. Boat trips can be taken from tam coc or trang an. Trang an is prettier and less busy. The trips at both places take you to temples and pagodas, through caves. Trips last about 2-3hours. There are many others things to do such as trek in national parks, bird sanctuary, visit the largest temple Bai Dinh (go at 3, quieter and cooler and watch sunset from pagoda then walk down the hill with everything lit up). The most enjoyable thing to do is just be in amongst the karsts. Ride bikes or walk. It is hot and humid. More so than Halong bay. Avoid the heat of the day so take a long lunch break. I still personally prefer ninh binh limestone karst area. You have more control and variety of what you do. As my husband pointed out when we arrived at Halong bay it’s very similar. The best place of our trip in Vietnam. The place has a very different vibe than the other cities. The main area of stay is Tam Coc which has a plenty of options of food, boat rides etc. It's a perfect place for bicycle riding, rental bikes etc.

He organised all the transfers and made very good recommendations of the best places to visit in the area. He was always ready to help. Best service I got in Vietnam. They welcomed me with fruit and water. The room was very clean and big, and the location of the hotel is perfect. Breakfast was also good. So far it has been the best hotel I have been in Vietnam! If I come back to Tam Coc no doubt I will come back to the same place. Highly recommended

The view from the property is absolutely beautiful, you can walk to nearby restaurants/bars within 10 minutes but you are far enough away to feel like you're out in the country. Great pool, bungalows are comfortable and spacious, and the staff went above and beyond on multiple occasions - extending my stay, booking a bus, assisting with an excursion. If I ever get back to Tam Coc, I will be staying here again!

When we arrived they gave us a map of the region with all the sights. It was definitely worth the visit. Also, the family has a cute restaurant (tam coc kitchen) which can be reached by bike in only a few minutes and they have some really good Vietnamese food :)

Also the hotel is located in front of a lotus field, probably when they bloom it’s amazing. Even though the location is right outside Tam coc and we weren’t sure that will be ok - we found out that the location is perfect and it’s so easy to navigate and enjoy this area. highly recommended.
