Had a great stay here. The beach is just a few meters away and bars and restaurants just a short walk down the beach as well. The whole room, incl. bathroom was spacious and very clean. Breakfast had a good selection, very typical German breakfast and everything was being refilled even towards the end of breakfast time. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Would very much recommend a stay, especially for the price we paid.

I recommend it to All, but of course it depends what you want to do or what you are interested. I love hiking/tracking and doing sports. If someone loves just lying on the beach it may not be perfect or not perfect in this time of the year.
I am saying it must be visited at once.

We were here in Winter and I am curious if we could swim in the sea in Summer; I doubt it. But the beach is great, and there are wonderful eateries in the vicinity. But the beach is about 5 km from the center; the city itself is very nice and cosy, with architecture resembling Denmark, which is understandable.

Otherwise Cuxhaven is nothing special but does have free parking near a large Church where there is sometimes a market. Area is a little rundown with a number of empty shops. Ok plain fish restaurant near harbour huis Dierk.

I last visited Cuxhaven thirty years ago.
I last visited Cuxhaven thirty years ago. The resorts of Duhnen/Döse/Sahlenburg have changed appreciably since then, from mundane seaside resorts to a modern up-market holiday experience. Unfortunately the prices have also taken off. Nevertheless, the town's location at the junction of the Elbe river and the astounding Wadden Sea never fails to impress. Plenty to see and do in town and country, try a nine-mile hike over the mud flats at low tide to Neuwerk island. For Brits an almost unknown corner of Germany, all the more rewarding to discover for yourself.

Döse has a lovely clean beach with lots of beach baskets one can hire. The Wadden Sea is great to explore for adults and children alike. Tours are available too. If you take your bikes, even better, as a way of getting around the area. There are places to hire bikes too. Cuxhaven itself has lots of restaurants and shops and is nice for a stroll for a few hours. The location is ideal, Bremen, Bremerhaven, Hamburg are all within reach. A day trip to Helgoland is a nice to do.

We stayed in Sahlenburg, the smallest of the resort towns in...
We stayed in Sahlenburg, the smallest of the resort towns in Cuxland (including Cuxhaven, Duhnen and Döse). More relaxed and less built up than Duhnen, Sahlenburg has a long, sandy beach, endless trails through the woods, and plenty of restaurants and things to do. We windsurfed, rented bicycles, and took a horse and carriage ride over the tidal flats to Neuwerk. They don't get many international travelers in Cuxhaven, so a little German ability will go a long way. Most restaurants and shops only take EC card (No visa or mastercard), so make sure to have plenty of cash on hand. There is no ATM by the beach in Sahlenburg. I recommend 3 days here. Bring some warm clothes as it gets cool in the evening, even in July!
I would recommend calling ahead to book your "Standkorb" (a 2-person beach box, shelter from sun and wind). We had a hard time figuring out how to rent one! Access to the beaches is paid and our landlord purchased beach passes for the duration of our stay, but the beach guards seemed to disappear around 4pm (and the strandkorb rental offices were also closed at this time, if they were ever open!)
One thing I'd definitely like to do next time is take a ferry from Cuxhaven harbor out to Helgoland or Sylt. Either of those trips would be an additional day, at least! Another option is a short ride to see the Sea lions on the islands in the Elbe estuary.
The accommodation was spacious and clean, well equipped, very nice. The village is really small, we appreciated the great peace. You can buy homemade eggs, honey and jams here, bigger shops are a few minutes away by car. You can reach the beach in a short time by car, you can also ride a bike or walk along a nice path. There are beautiful forests in the surroundings. We spent a lovely week here with our dogs.
The room was well appointed and styled well for a Health Conscience Beach Hotel. The Breakfast Room had a wide variety to suit almost anyone. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Recommendations for dining and sightseeing were spot on, as well as tips to avoid walking on the beach without the supplied pass. Overall, I enjoy this Hotel and will return in the Summer or Fall (it was very wet and stormy)
Very friendly, hard-working hosts who went out of their way to welcome everyone and to help. A very efficiently run hotel and close to two small grocery markets and eating places, an ancient church with a unique altar painting. A good breakfast & bar. Quiet, peaceful. Elevator.
Cosy room with a clean and spacy bathroom. Parking spots are available just beside the house. Gästehaus is situated in a very quiet and calm part of Cuxhaven. The beach is around 10 minutes of walking distance, the tourist center (Duhnen) around 20 minutes.
Simple but comfortable hotel in a nautical style. Room was clean and tidy, shower a little outdated. Quiet hotel with carpet in the hallways, breakfast was really good, lots of choices and enough of everything, definately worth the money.
Nicely decorated, warm and comfortable, clean, very close to the beach/wattenmeer, woods and the moor. Easy parking. We happened to be there on a sunny day with no wind, so were able to enjoy walking out on the Wadden Sea. Wonderful.
Very polite, friendly and nice personal, own hotel bar, possibility to rent a parking spot.
Appartment was big, indoor swimming pool (useful on Wadden sea).
City is very quiet, fits well for those who goes to bed early.
Good breakfast and well located in Cuxhaven, close to the port and shops/restaurants but like other parts of Europe, be careful and plan ahead for what you need on a Sunday. Very quite village on that day.
The property has been renovated since my last visit. My room appeared to have never been used before.
The breakfast was better than I have experienced in supposed 5 star hotels.
Location is fantastic - views from the window for big boats, place to swim in Elbe river mouth just next to the hotel, sandy beach short walk away, cycling paths.
sadly there was construction around the hotel so it was not easy to get to, but the hotel itself was wonderful right by the water! would definitely stay again
