The location is on a quiet street, short walk from Samegai JR station (which unfortunately does not have an escalator) The Ryokan has been renovated beautifully, plenty of space to read, chat, eat and relax. The Ryokan has well thought out shared bathrooms, toilet and a small kitchenette with a kettle, small fridge and microwave available for use. The Ryokan is very clean with fresh towels provided everyday. The host Usui san cooks breakfast and dinner daily upon request, but you are free to buy food and eat it at the Ryokan.

La Guesthouse En è una casa vacanze situata a Maki, Shiga. La stazione più vicina è quella di JR Omi-Hachiman, raggiungibile in 12 minuti di auto. Guesthouse En is a beautiful rural getaway. The house was large compared with the many small hotel rooms we stayed in during our stay and it was so lovely to stay somewhere that had genuine Japanese atmosphere, but that also catered to western tourists (e.g. the bath/shower is suitable for both western and Japanese travellers). We also appreciated the little extra touches like an automatic heater in the toilet and decent coffee bags. The bikes were great to get us to and from town, and Hiroshi was also very generous to take us to and from the station for a day trip to Kyoto. Would recommend to anyone who wants to get out of town and experience Japan a little more slowly.

ゲストハウスすまいるさん, a property with a garden, is located in Iba, 43 km from Enryaku-ji Temple, 43 km from Sanzen-in Temple, as well as 44 km from Mount Hiei. Perfect location to visit the countryside of Japan. This is the real Japan with Koi carpers swimming in river-like gutters and friendly helpfull villagers. On top of this, Kyoto is only half an hour away by train. We came for a nice, relaxing place to stay but got a family who was so warm and welcoming. Mizu, the hostess of Smile guesthouse is a very kind and helpful person who speaks good English. She helped and guided us to make our stay even better. The guest house is a traditional Japanese house. Beautiful and full of details. And next to that you can eat fresh strawberries at the Tanaberry farm, which is a 8 minutes walking distance. We can recommend everyone to stay here. As we immediately extended our stay the day we arrived and are planning to definitely stay again the next time we travel to Japan.

Located in Hikone, 1.7 km from Hikone Castle, GUEST HOUSE NAGORIYA provides accommodation with a bar and free private parking. Hikone is so enjoyable. I borrowed a bicycle free of charge, and it was amazing to cycle around the lake, castle and downtown.

The trip to the bathroom during the night was somewhat difficult for us. The bedroom was on the upper floor in the lovely traditional Japanese house. The narrow stairway was challenging for us. There is ample room downstairs and perhaps owners would accommodate a request to put the bedding there.

Instructions by the host were precise and clear before the checkin. The rooms were sparkling clean, hosts were super friendly and helpful! Location is great to multiple sights in the neighborhood. (Metasequoia trees, cherry blossom, etc. ) Everything is as described in the property descruption. Even better than the pictures. Hosts do not speak english, however they are well prepared with a translator app.
