Good facilities, small store in the hostel for some food. Delivery of bento boxes for dinner was a good extra! Very nice private onsen!

Very kind host, we had some nice talk with host about Japan. He cooked us really delicious okonomiyaki. It was nice diner and breakfast with other guests. We tried sake. Everything you want after long Kumano Kodo walk! 😊

Very clean and fairly new/well maintained accomodation. I have been to several shared bath accomodations and some have the weirdest setup that don't make sense. This place just does it. Bed is comfy and pillow has just the right height. There's proper hangers in the shower room, bins at the right spots, everything just makes sense so you'll be feeling like staying in a home instead of a hostel. Friendly and very helpful staffs to ease you through your stay and travel around the area.

The property features quiet street views and is 3.6 km from Kii Kimoto Castle Ruins and 4 km from Nakano Castle Ruins. The guest house has a hot tub and bicycle parking. a very unique, lively place. a great owner! very unique gentleman. we went to surf together the following day. he missed my reservation request so was quite surprised and didn't want me to stay for another right I think :D but it's totally fine because he is a very colorful and unique person to accommodate in his place! The guest house is located in a geothermal area, with a number of hot springs nearby for guests to relax in. Staying at Sangenya Guesthouse was one of our best experiences in Japan. The property itself is beautiful, clean and traditional. Of course, the town of Shirahama was also beautiful and having access to the beach within walking distance made it such a great location. We spent some wonderful days at the beach! Unfortunately, one of the days there was a typhoon - however our incredible hosts were so lovely and generous that it was actually a positive experience even when the weather outside was torrential. This trip marked the end of a year in Japan and even as we packed up our things to leave, we were talking about how we wanted to come back to the guesthouse in the future because the property and hosts were so wonderful. We also had some drinks at the property’s café, and both the hojicha and matcha were the best ones we’d tried in Japan!  We absolutely recommend the Sangenya Guesthouse!
