A tiny, cozy ensemble of cottages carved in stone some 5 centuries ago; simply one of the most fascinating villages in Pelion. However, be ready to drive on roads that will probably make you feel as safe as 5 centuries ago (virtually no guardrails whatsoever; after a couple of days you will get used to cars parked in the middle of the road, behind a curve, on a 3-meter-wide path...)
PInakates is one of the numerous small picturesque villages built on the sides of Pelion mountain. Lots of natural springs flowing all over the place, offering fresh cool water to locals and travelers. Beautiful, fairy location, but with awful roads. The center of the village, which is the 'plateia' with huge old plane trees as in every village, is located below the main road, so the visitors must park the car and go down the stairs to find it. There are places for dinner and coffee. Staying at Pinakates is lovely and tranquil, but staying only there for too long might be boring... not much to do. However, it may serve as base to explore the rest of the villages on Pelion mountain, just to name a couple Tsagkarada and Makrynitsa, who are also very beautiful.
Interesting city port with excellent choice sea / mountain. The village Makrinitsa on the Pelion mountain is a must visit for the village architecture and for a great panoramic view of Volos.
We are the couple of mid age, so Pelion and kalamos with this beautifull hotel right on the beach was perfect place for us as we expected. No crowed, long beautifful beaches, warm sea, swimming even when the rain, travelling throw the beautifull, historical villages, eating in traditional tavernas. What else to say? WE WILL SURE COME TO KALAMOS AGAIN!
Dimini is well worth a visit and the museum in Volos is excellent with some very good exhibits from the Neolithic and Mycenaean sites there. The waterfront is great for walking with lots of lively cafes and bars. There are local buses into the Pelion peninsula and the tourist info centre is conveniently opposite the KTEL terminal and next to the local bus station with very helpful staff. There is also a working train station which has a realy pretty building with trains to Athens and Thessaloniki although you have to visit it to check the daily train times on the chalk boards
Volos is really a nice town, but not yet a touristic town; I think locals like Volos so as it is, and there are many young students; many nice shops; nice shopping atmoshere; Volos has a port with fresh fish, and very good restaurants, I like the culinary flavors and the excellent cuisine of Volos and Pelion; People are very friendly; I had favourite restaurants Iolkos on the digue, near the Argo ship; and one on the beach, the last beach , EEOxikonKentpon Aypa; locals prefer this restaurants too. There was also a Beach Club to drink somethings, it was very pleasant, modern, nice music, very friendly : Isalos Beach Club, to recommend; Nice to rent a private Taxi (who has a certificate of Excellence of Tripadvisor,) in Volos and visit the Pelion village Makrinitsa., very nice excursion with a fascinating view to Volos.
Fantastic views and clean mountain air (here in May) Take a sweatshirt for evenings - can get cool. Allow plenty of travelling time as roads are VERY winding but wonderful views at every turn. English is widely spoken in the Pelion, take cash as some shops don't take cards. Also the road tolls were cash only
Zagora was a cute little village to start our trip through the Pelion Villages. The road to get to Zagora is certainly full of twists and turns. The streets are narrow so walking would be advisable in town. We had the best service at one of the few restaurants open during off season.
Pelion is a great place that combines both great beaches and mountains for hiking and skiing. Portaria is ideally situated with shops and cafes and some restaurants and close driving distance for sightseeing the different little villages in the area.
Portaria is close to Volos eg reached the hospital for our child s care on Sunday at no time. It is also at a good location to start for visiting other beautiful destinations in Pelion.
Chorefto
The location is great, just above long and wide sandy beach. The beach is lively and has a nice atmosphere, but not too crowded, despite it hosts campers, surfers and some naturalist. The hotel is full of flowers and has a nice view over the sea. The bathroom is recently reconstructed and the kitchen has all basic amenities. The hosts, older couple, are friendly. Chorefto village is 5 mins walk, and has traditional restaurants and a grocery shop. Overall, very good choice for near beach accomodation, which is not easy to find in East Pelion.
My companion and I visited Galini hotel in Agios Ioannis. Pelion in fall is really beautiful ! Although there weren’t a lot of restaurants open, there were some open and we ate delicious food! The hotel is beautifully decorated in a boho style ! The room had a huge smart TV. Also, there was a hairdresser and an iron available without charge ! The room was very clean and comfortable ! The owners were so friendly and on call around the clock !! I would definitively recommend it!!! That Pelion area is amazing and we will come back for sure !!
Agios Ioannis Pelio
This place exceeded my expectations, it was above and beyond! Our family loved everything about this place - it was beautiful, with gorgeous views, minimalistic decor, clean and very comfortable, with attention to detail. We stayed in a maisonette which was wonderful. The breakfast was delicious, and the restaurant - one of the most beautiful (and gourmet) we have been to in Greece. The staff was polite, friendly, extremely nice. Last but not least, the infinity pool made this place the perfect hidden gem on Pelion.
Argalasti
indeed a very cost apartment in the heart of Argalasti. Furnished tastefully with focus on details. it came with all you need for a relaxing stay - huge terrace for morning coffee or evening wine, spacious and clean bedrooms. situated on a walking distance from the center of the village, while the village itself is in the heart of Pelion and one can use it as a starting point to exploring the most beautiful places in Greece. definitely will recommend the place to anyone interested in the area
A very nice hotel in Portaria/Pelion, modern renovated and designed, very clean and well-organized, with nice facilities, and very close to the center of Pelion. The breakfast was delicious and the pool was clean and with many sunbeds to relax on. All hotel's staff was very nice and helpful. Especially, many thanks to the manager of the Hotel Mr. Tilemaxos for all the helpful hints and tips that he provided to us during our stay there. We are going to visit Despotiko again!
We loved everything about our stay ay Olga Hotel: Mr Dimitris is an excellent host, with very good tips on places to visit and where to eat; Ms Anna is an magnificent cook – we couldn’t wait to taste her lavish and varied homemade breakfast every morning. The rooms are very stylish and perfectly clean and the mattress is very comfortable. The location of the hotel is ideal, as it is close to the beach and also to the main villages of Pelion. We couldn’t recommend Olga enough.
Various options for a family trip - the sea, Pelion mountain where you can either go to the sea and choose from popular beaches with all the facilities, to more quiet beaches, where the water is amazingly blue, or taste some of the best dishes in the villages nearby. Moreover, Panos, the owner was very helpful and friendly, he helped us have some of the best experiences in Greece. He was really involved and gave us the information needed to enjoy our stay in Volos.
Agios Ioannis Pelio
We had an amazing week at Katerina's hotel. It was by far the best accommodation of our trip to Greece. The view from the balcony is breathtaking. It has a perfect location to explore Pelion beaches and mountains. It is just a few meters from Papa Nero and the way to the beach is so beautiful. In addition, Katerina is a very friendly host and was always available to help us during our stay. We totally recommend this accommodation to anyone.
Milina
If you want to experience the authentic beauty of mainland Greece, I highly recommend this place. We were blown away by the tranquil surroundings. It is situated right on the sea-front and walking distance from a quaint little village called Melina. We loved everything about this place from the decor to the architecture to the location. The hosts were kind and accommodating. Honestly, one of the most special places in Pelion.
Makrinitsa
Hotel Petrino is located between two beautiful villages of mount Pelion. From our room we had amazing view of Makrinitsa, the most beautiful village of Pelion. Katerinana Cleanthes, the hosts were very helpful, very polite, very friendly and made you feel like home! The breakfast was excellent! The rooms were very well decorated and were very clean! I strongly recomend the hotel to travellers to Pelion!
Great place with in a quiet location with ample parking- a rarity in Pelion. Sound of a creek next to the property is soothing and the views are fabulous. Wonderful complex of units and a very nice breakfast. This is a quiet location, but the taverns up the street has some of the best food you are likely to have in Greece. Hiking is very steep but n the area, so be prepared if that’s on your agenda.
Mouresi
The place is so relaxing and so well organized. The room was specious (and we took the smaller room), Cosy and absolutely beautiful. The view is breath-taking. The room, the pool, the common area were all very clean. The location is great, at an easy distance from everything you want to do to in east Pelion. Breakfast was excellent! One of the best I had in Greece…
Makrinitsa
My partner and I are three-peat guests (return visitors) w/ Kiki and Vlasis @ Melanthi. From the warmest of welcomes, expertise for day excursions, stunning views of the bay and Volos, and oh-so-cozy beds, Melanthi is a remarkable place to explore a magical part of Greece in Makrinitsa and the Pelion Peninsula that will leave yearning for a return visit.
Volos
The apartment is very nicely decorated and perfectly clean, there is also a parking space right next to it. We had everything we needed. The location is excellent: close to city center (1.5 km), the nearest beaches are just on 3 km and 5 km away (Anavros and Alykes). The owner is very kind and wonderful person. We will book it again when we go to Pelion.
The hospitality was incredible, generous and thoughtful. The view from the hotel was, in my view, the best in Pelion. just stunning. Our host makes a delicious home made breakfast which is served anywhere you wish on the premise . The room was cozy, comfortable and very clean. Would definitely consider visiting again
Location: Portaria is a great place as a basis for exploring Pelion. The hotel is nicely located within Portaria, walking distance to the main square and also has some (limited) own parking Staff: very friendly and also professional, trying to do its best to enhance your experience. Unfortunately that is not enough.
Anilio Pelion
The accommodation is excellent, clean, and tidy, and the view is fantastic. We found ourselves in this accommodation amidst a storm and significant floods that hit Pelion and Greece. We must especially commend the hosts; they helped us a lot when there was no electricity, food, or phone signal.
Agios Ioannis Pelio
Indeed a five-star property! The best location we had in Greece. Pelion is amazing. And Papa Nero is wonderful. Excellent service and facilities, amazing view, very friendly behaviour of the host, surprise homemade breakfast every morning. We strongly recommend! We will come back for sure!
Agios Ioannis Pelio
We had an amazing stay at Aegean View House. The apartment was nicer, larger than shown on the photos. The view from the balcony is breathtaking. Communication with was very easy, who was very kind. Agios Ioannis is the best place to stay in Pelion, I think.
Malaki
Nice view over the Aegean Sea. Squeaky clean apartment with modern windows which keep away almost all the noise from the coastal road. Less than 10 minutes by car to Ano Lechonia train station from where the mythical Pelion narrow gauge train departs.
