Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomVery comfortable and spacious apartment with amazing views. Showers were good and plenty of storage. Very central location a few minutes walk to the bars and restaurants and the train station to Bilbao and Bermeo. Parking was in an underground garage a few minutes walk away.

United StatesThere wasn’t anything that negativity affected the quality of our stay.
Mundaka is charming, clean and quaint and a good base to explore the region, which is stunning. We slept to the music of the waves splashing under the house with a full moon beaming in across the water. Magical! We found the beds and living area very comfy! We swam off the rocks wearing water shoes. The location of the house is extremely unique and special; maybe not for a Ritz crowd, but that is not our taste. The town is small, but near to most extraordinary landscapes! Check out Laida and Laga Beaches across the estuary. The Gaztelugatxe hike was an experience of a lifetime (pic attached). We’d go back in a heartbeat!

CanadaNext time, I will request the apartment that's on the street level. The unit we stayed in was at the bottom of the stairs which could get rather slippery when it rains (and it did rain upon our arrival!), and difficult to access specially while carrying heavy travelling bags. I'm no longer as young, strong, and nimble as I used to be!
I liked the location and the building structure itself, and how they made it blend with the environment outside. Amazing view from the living room window! As the tide comes in, you will actually see the famous left-handed waves that Mundaka is known for.

United KingdomThere is absolutely no information provided in the flat, not even a note with the wifi code. For everything, you must ring up Mikel and ask. The thing that caused us most trouble was learning how to get out of the underground parking, when we were in it. You need to locate a point on a column set well-back from the exit doors and insert your access-key into it, so that the exit doors will open. This key-point is not well-marked and is not where you would expect it to be if you had been informed (which we weren’t) that we needed to find it. A standard information sheet in the flat with information about the wifi code, recycling and where the bins are (we asked Tourist Information!), how the heating works, the existence of a drying rack, how to exit the parking lot etc would have been extremely useful. The mattress was very hard. A mattress-topper would fix this. Some basics in the kitchen were missing. I had the impression that the flat hadn’t been checked before we arrived. There was neither a washing-up bowl nor a sink plug, so we could only wash up under running water, which is not good when there’s a water shortage. No bread or chopping board (though there was a good knife and bread knife), no kettle, not enough glasses or cutlery for 3 people. (The kitchen itself is fine though you would struggle to cook full meals in it. It’s set up for people, like us, who eat their main meal out and only need to prepare breakfast and picnic lunches. There’s a hob, microwave and fridge.) The plumbing worked but seemed to be struggling. For example, the shower was great but drained so slowly that we needed to turn off the water while soaping to allow the water to drain, before putting it on again to wash the soap off. The toilet made loud, grumbling noises - but it too worked. The plumbing would benefit from a service. Wifi signal was variable. Almost all of these problems could be fixed quite easily and cheaply.
We had a wonderful time. This is because this is a more-than-5-star location. The location makes it possible to over-look the downsides, of which there were a few. The living area of the flat opens out onto a corridor/balcony, with table and chairs, and a view directly over the estuary that Mundaka is set on. The corridor is enclosed all in glass, like a narrow conservatory, so you can sit in it when it rains. The huge windows, which open, are double-glazed. There are doors at either end that have direct access via stairs down to the water, where you can go swimming. Although too cold for us to swim (we are over 70 years old and had no wet-suits with us), we sat and watched others surfing, paddle-surfing and kayak-surfing. We also watched cormorants fishing. It was endlessly interesting. The flat is small but extremely well designed. The living area is light and looks over the sea, the bedroom is darker and is at the land-end of the flat, so you can make the room dark enough to sleep. If you open the window, you can hear the sea when you wake up The flats are located near the centre of Mundaka, next to the church and a square in which children play and people meet. Shops, the tourist information, the surf school, bars and the underground parking lot (you pay extra for this) are all very close by. Mundaka itself is a lovely place, quiet and friendly. Trains go into Guernika and Bilbao, stopping along the way at villages from which you can walk in the Urdaibai Reserve. The flat comes with nearby underground parking (extra charge) which is needed. Although out-of-season (early May) there were no parking places on the street nearby. Mikel is very responsive and answers phone queries quickly and helpfully. This is important as the total absence of information provided in the flat means that you will need to call him up.

BulgariaBreathtaking views, comfortable beds, right in the town center and 200m from the beach. We really enjoyed our stay and the kindness of our host who arranged a late check out for us. Mundaka is just perfect for surfing but please mind the river might scare beginner surfers. Will come back :)

NetherlandsThe sofa has to be replaced, you can’t sit on it. We found the beds very hard, uncomfortable. The kitchen has very few cooking utensils. We stayed a week and haven’t met the owner.
The situation of the building was spectacular, the amazing view we had from the open corridor right before our apartment. The little bay before the building. The house is located in the center of nice Mundaka, but still quiet.

United KingdomWe found the beds a little uncomfortable and we think it should be made clear that there isn't direct access to the sea from this apartment
The location was excellent, in the centre of town and just about the sea. The apartment was very clean, modern and well equipped and we loved waking up to the sound of the sea every morning. Communication and information from the host was also excellent.

PolandFirstly I have to say that the place is absolutely amazing; the view, the ocean nearby, city centre with bars and restaurants just around the corner, but at the same time it's very calm and quiet neighbourhood. The apartment itself is great and contains all the essentials needed, moreover it is clean and comfortable. Mikel, the host is such a nice person, helpful, easygoing and always ready to make your stay even more enjoyable. Me and my family spent a great time in Mundaka Sea Flat and we will definitely come back someday.
